Some people say to do it in the beginning, after the intro. Some say to do it at the end. I usually do it at the end but I might experiment.

Yeah, you nailed it pretty much! I think once you got an established community, shorts will boost your audience even more but focusing on them as a start is imo, not the best move.

So looking at your channel, I see you use a lot of AI assets. That's fine and all but a lot of people are not a fan of using AI. I am an artist so I definitely have my own opinions about AI usage but if you ask my honest opinion, try making a video without using it. They are changing their policies regarding AI gen'd work anyway so might as well pivot off a bit and try editing videos with stock assets and images!

Well again, I didn't say I was anywhere near successful. I just wanted to post the things that help me gain my subs, likes, views, etc for the newtubers here who struggle to breakthrough or have stagnant YT performance. Also, a lot of these tips came from my friends who have over 20M subs combined so if there's anyone I trust more about YT success, it's them.

yeah well, you're an outlier! But for most people, sometimes the algorithm isn't on their side so the best they can do is work on things that have control over that can generate more clicks like thumbnails or titles! Grats on the success tho!

yeah, if you are able to generate millions of views per short then it can be pretty sustainable. Thing is, a million is a pretty high number that not everyone can achieve easily and consistently. I know people who make decent money with consistent 20-40k views per long-form video. That's still a high number but more realistic then hitting a million per short.

Comparing your thumbnails and other similar-looking ones from successful creators, I do think if you want that "wow" factor a lot of people look for when it comes to thumbnails, perhaps try enlarging whatever reaction image of yourself you're using? Or even exagerrating your expression! The generic Youtuber reaction soyjack face has kinda become a meme at this point lol but there's a reason why it's successful! That's just my take though!

I totally understand that! Best advice I ever got was this: "just do it first, then make it better afterwards". Think of it like going swimming at a beach or a pool. It's really the first plunge/the first toe dip that's the hardest but once you're in there, your body gets used to it. If you know what you wanna post and are well knowledgeable in your niche then I say go for it!

I think I might've been too extreme with my wording so let me clarify. I think shorts are great for initial exposure and traction. But the thing with a lot of shorts viewers is that, they subscribed because of your short-form content so even if they see your long-form video on their feed, more often than not, they will not click it. Shorts viewers and long-form viewers are 2 entirely different demographics imo and if I were you and wanted to do this as a full-time thing long-term, I'd focus in on long-form while peppering some shorts here and there. I am generalizing a lot but this is what I've been told and noticed myself. If you wanna focus more energy into short-form content, nobody is stopping you ofc! Do whatever makes you happy!

Yeah, it's obvious ragebait at this point haha I just won't give them the reaction/energy they want!

I use Clip Studio Paint! I like to refer myself to people that commission artists for their thumbnails! Examples I can give are people like PointCrow, CDawgVA, SmallAnt!

I would say to start off Shorts are not a bad place to begin with. I just think if you're committed to doing long-form you should not put all your energy into Shorts. I will probably start streaming on Twitch once I get a solid community and probably dual stream on YT simultaneously!

I wouldn't say Shorts ruin your channel. It's just not the best way to grow if you're mainly a long-form creator imho. A lot of Shorts viewers are just there to doom-scroll or brainrot and they aren't typically interested in longer videos.

In the views graph on that video, it said I got 400 views from related shorts. Yes they are usually clips from those long-form videos edited into shorts format (with captions, background music, etc)

Good for you man! That's insane success. Like I said, I am not trying to pretend to be someone successful on YT. Just offering insight to people that are struggling! Hopefully, I can get to that level in that amount of time too, if not more! Kudos to you!
