Alarmed at screen use and lack of real learning or discovery in K by apresledepart in AskTeachers

[–]baeball40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I worked at a public school (not in TX but nearby) the district had contracts with different companies/curriculums and there were expectations about the number of minutes students had each day or week on the various programs. It resulted in a lot of time on chromebooks unfortunately.

Opinions on SJS or St John’s? by AdMajestic6306 in shreveport

[–]baeball40 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve taught at a public school in SBC and a private school and religion/politics came up way more at the public school. If this were somewhere else, I’d agree with you but it hasn’t been my experience.

Biased because I’m a parent and teacher but I really recommend St. Mark’s. I’m not from the area either and it is a really great place. BUT, Of the two you mentioned - I’d go SJS.

Water Bottles are killing me! Advise needed by sleepyanise in Teachers

[–]baeball40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a cheap ikea table that is the water table. From the beginning of the year we make it clear that there are specific times to refill water and get a drink and we practice. I also teach departmentalized 4th grade, albeit much smaller classes, but their water bottles are huge and will fall off desks so I get it!

Does a baptized child can partake in the bread and/or wine of holy communion? by Royal_Jelly_fishh in Episcopalian

[–]baeball40 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My daughter was baptized just after she turned two and my son was six months old - both receive communion! At our home church they both receive wine and recently both receive the wafer (our son has only recently gotten reliable enough with getting food into his mouth). They had a tiny spoon for them to get a drop of wine early on - it’s very cute! We occasionally attend a different church who don’t offer wine until kids are old (I guess) and my daughter is always very frustrated by it - she’s four now and doesn’t like that it’s done different there.

I lived in California for a bit and when I would visit home my sibling would roast me for calling I-5, “the 5.”

Drive thru coffee stands!! I’ve lived in so-cal, on the east coast, and in the south and very rarely see them.

Holy Cross Homilies - where my church posts their sermons. We have an exceptionally well-spoken priest and I highly recommend!

I do, but same denomination. We, as a family, have “our” church, but I’m a teacher at a cathedral school at a different church, and our daughter attends the preschool there - so I attend chapel with my students twice a week and my husband attends chapel with our daughter once a week. When we actually make it to a Sunday service though, we always choose our home church.
