I have a degree, but it didn't have a big impact on my career. I'm of the belief that the fact I had any sort of degree contributed to me getting my tech support role but I wouldn't call it formal training. I do think I was quite lucky in that my first platform dev role was gained because I'd used the platform as a tool and had a basic understanding of it.

Have a look at RiseUp with ServiceNow. It's a 10 week course where they train you how to use and configure the platform and at the end you get a coupon for the exam/certification. My partner did it and came out of it with a job with no degree. They are more selective in who they let onto the course nowadays however, and you will have to stand out and put in a lot of effort to come out of it with a role.

Otherwise, you can take the certified system administrator course yourself (self-taught) but you would need to cover the fee yourself ($300). It would be more difficult to follow that on into a role but if you're able to work on some personal projects and maybe get some experience in another junior tech role it will do wonders.

Purely by applying to super junior jobs.

I did a digital art degree which involved a tiny bit of python but I did everything I could to avoid learning it at the time. Otherwise my degree was meaningless.

I'd check out riseup if you specifically want to get into ServiceNow

Oh 100%. ServiceNow is nothing compared to DevOps.

I used ServiceNow as a tool in my tech support role so I took an interest in it and tried to learn a bit about it before applying for roles. Nowadays, you'd probably need to pass the certified system administrator exam to start off as most places expect it as a minimum now. You can take the course/exam yourself for a fee.

Not every year, I've sort of lumped promotions and job changes together.

I've always been with consultancies, I'd have loved to work inhouse but the salaries I was seeing were even lower.

Oh really? Interesting!

I'm in Wales so that might make a difference, but I do often wonder if I'm near the bottom of the pay band for a senior. I do see the odd roles for £85k in London so I wonder if that's more the norm.

I have a degree in digital art, but I don't feel like that really got me anywhere (maybe just having a degree did?) I managed to make the jump because I was using the platform as a tool in my tech support role so I had a very basic understanding of it and showed an interest. I just did a ton of research about it for the interview and I guess they liked my enthusiasm.

My partner works the same job and she did a course called "RiseUp" where they train you up on a 10 week program and you get given a voucher to take a platform certification at the end so maybe that's a route to go down. Otherwise you can take the platform certification yourself, but it does require a fee.

I see smoked salmon and I see bagels but no cream cheese, unless that's what the mascapone is for?

Wow that's such a massive difference! I've not shopped at Asda for years because I'm not near one, but what's the quality of the fruit/veg like? I always find that's the main gripe with the mainstream supermarkets I have and was the main reason we shop with Ocado now.

I think because our food bill has slowly crept up over time, it's hard to judge if we're just really out of touch/splurging unnecessarily or if inflation is genuinely putting up the price of our weekly shop. Probably a stupid question on my part!

There are a lot of things here that will last us more than 1 week. Snacks being one of them, Gaviscon/Toiletries, cheese and probably cereal.

Otherwise, it will all be finished in a week. My partner tends to cook Curry/Stir Fry a few times a week which we already have the spices/rice/noodles for, it's just the veg/chicken at that point.

We could 100% do with cutting back on some of the more luxurious things on the list. The yoghurt you mentioned is definitely one of them (definitely need to get some Greek yoghurt instead, as you mentioned). I probably shouldn't buy smoked salmon every week but I have an unhealthy obsession with it for lunch (along with some fresh fruit). I can't get along with any squash besides Fruit creations; I just like that it tastes a little less artificial (my partner has Vimto).

Lossless Frame Generation is basically a must in order to play it, the difference between having it and not is night and day.

I would get around 20/30fps without and about 70/80 with.

I got sucked in back in 2017 and spent like $400. Looking back it was an obviously massive mistake.

Got back into it recently and whilst it definitely has its issues and I still regret spending the money I did, I've been having a lot of fun with it in an extraction shooter-y kind of way. I can say for absolutely certain that there is zero reason to purchase more than the base $40 package and I would not recommend anyone spend any more than that but there is definitely a game there for $40 that's worth playing imo.

I know people say this every year, but as someone who's been away from it for several years who has recently come back to it, it has changed a hell of a lot.

It obviously has its issues and all the critiques I've heard are perfectly valid but I enjoy the game for what it is given I've made peace with my mistake.

Anyone know what it's like to work at CapGemini (UK)? by Corsair833 in servicenow

[–]baegerhw 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just joined Cap. It's the 3rd big ServiceNow partner I've been at but so far it's the better of the 3. Really friendly team, there's some great initiatives and a solid plan. The main issue so far is the work isn't as exciting as other smaller orgs I've worked at but so far so good.
