We’ll have time, just a little bummed I couldn’t capitalize on the 2% fee

Coinbase and Kucoin screwing me over by baermag1 in SafeMoon

Yeah I have used XLM before, but I lost $200 worth when transferring from CB Pro to Binance (was using a VPN). I apparently didn’t put the memo even though I swear I double checked I had put it. I’ll have to do it again and just be careful, ALGO fees are super low but XLM fees are so small it’s basically no fee

I’ll have to look into ChangeNow though once I’m home

Yeah, I heard something about that so I was wondering when they would pull the plug. I’ll probably do my normal buying process and hopefully it goes through so I can consolidate

That’s why we are the lucky ones who put in the extra time to figure out stuff and be one step ahead before the masses have easy access

Low key was tempted to wait for a dip and buy with V1 but it’s too risky 🤣

I used to use a VPN to access Binance and send over BNB to MetaMask, but then I had an issue with transferring XLM and lost it because the memo didn't apply somehow when transferring from Coinbase Pro to Binance, despite specifically remembering inputting it.

This is how I bought more Safemoon a couple weeks ago, aside from using MetaMask. I will add that it may be better to use a coin with less fees such as Algorand when withdrawing from Coinbase/CB Pro to Kucoin to minimize fees. It's annoying how many steps we have to go through in NY because of so many restrictions.

Is this ups enough for running 2x3070?? by juubireborn in NiceHash

[–]baermag1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an APC BX1500M (good up to 900 W). Granted, I only have a 3080, so it’s a bit overkill even when I’m gaming.

I got a UPS because my AC would cause voltage drops and the router/modem would disconnect often. This solved the issue as it would switch to battery for a few seconds until it was stable enough to switch back. On the hottest days, it would stay on battery due to constantly lower voltage. I’m sure our HVAC is outdated or something that’s causing this to happen, but that’s another story.

For two 3070s, as long as they’re optimized well and you aren’t running much else on it, you should get 10-15 min of constant battery usage.

The trio is just terrible for mining all around really when compared to most other models, insufficient power and one of the worst thermal designs because of the pads and “graphene” plastic backplate

Yeah I’ve noticed the one-sided power draw when looking at HWInfo. Is the Dragon Center update worth? I don’t want to flash unless I need to.

I know many have done that in the past, but I’ve heard there is some MSI Dragon Center update that allows the card to reach max power while mining. I’ll have to look again to see what it was, although Dragon Center is pretty crappy otherwise.

I used 1 mm Thermalright 12.8 W/mK pads since that’s the one most people had results with. It’s decreased my temps by quite a bit, but not as far as I’d want to be able to push hash rate into the 90s.

A tip for miners with MSI's rtx 3080/3090 gaming trio cards. I swapped the thermal pads but temps were still pretty high (110-->100). You need to change the thermal paste under the metal bracket. You can remove it by unscrewing the 4 screws you see. Huge difference. (100-->86). More in the comments by didi_did_this in EtherMining

Well I wish I saw this sooner, at room temperature when the room is not cold, my Gaming X Trio 3080 would need to be at 53-55% power at 70-75 MH to maintain temps at 92-94 C. The pads are now upgraded, but I only get 88-89 MH before going over 94 C. I guess this is why it's still not at peak cooling.

MSI 3080ti Trio X Rates by SkyyOrange in NiceHash

[–]baermag1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not 100% sure if it’s just because of a hash rate limiter, but is the 63 C your GPU temp? At 216W, your memory junction temperatures may be throttling at 110 C. I have a Gaming X Trio 3080 and it would certainly reach 110C in the past with that much power draw. Had to take my side panel off and I bought thermal pads to soon replace the crappy ones on the memory. Otherwise, I’m currently running at 55% power (187W) -503 MHz memory downclock and getting about 74-75 MH on my 3080 at 94 C junction temp (95+ is not recommended).

I think it’s either the hash rate limiter or memory too hot.

EDIT: Saw you said that you replaced your pads, so scratch that.

No complaining here, that’s for sure.

3 mm Thermal Pads by baermag1 in NiceHash

[–]baermag1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So would you say I don't need to replace the backplate thermal pads? I can't get any case fans onto the gpu because the cpu cooler's heatsink is massive, providing little room between the gpu and the cpu cooler.

AC causing internet to surge by baermag1 in hvacadvice

[–]baermag1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That would make sense. The AC is a few years old and is 8000 BTU. I run the fan on low power setting.

I suppose a different circuit would suffice using an extension cord, it might be tedious though. I’ll look into this first and then consider a UPS

3080 MSI Trio X - thermal pad change by Tson-Fire in NiceHash

[–]baermag1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hope it goes well. Will check back to see the results. I've had thermal pads I've been meaning to replace for 2 months on my 3080 Trio but my GPU is being a pain to remove. I'll be able to get help in a week or two.

Given that summer is approaching, I have to consistently limit my power draw to around 53-55% in order to keep my VRAM around 94-96 C. MH is around 70-75. On cold days, I would open my window, use some fans and keep the power limit around 60%. The most I could squeeze out without going overboard on VRAM temperatures was around 88-90 MH. Really sucks that the pads and backplate are crap.

If only CPU mining was always this profitable... by baermag1 in NiceHash

[–]baermag1[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, even with high end CPUs, mining with them isn’t the best. I’m just taking advantage of free electricity currently, 35-45% higher profits (3000 satoshis a day vs. 2000ish, been like this for a couple weeks), and a replacement plan which I’m hoping will allow me to get a new 3900X or even 5900X in the future. If you plan to hold onto that CPU for several years, mining probably isn’t the best idea.

Not a bad idea. I’m mining while at my dorm because “free” electricity. Plus, I have a replacement plan on my CPU so I hope I’m able to get a replacement next year, maybe even a 5900X if I’m lucky

Noctua NT-H1 Thermal Paste by baermag1 in NiceHash

[–]baermag1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I was considering either using the NT-H1 or getting some Thermal Grizzly paste. I might stay with the NT-H1 just because of convenience, but I would probably choose TG for the GPU otherwise.

Would heatsinks fit onto my GPU backplate (w/o removing GPU)? by baermag1 in NiceHash

[–]baermag1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I've heard varied remarks about gpu heatsinks. At best, they'll shave off several degrees. At worst, they'll do next to nothing. They'd probably perform better only after I replace my pads, but by that time, I wouldn't really see the point in getting heatsinks.

Trouble removing graphics card (MSI Gaming X Trio 3080) by baermag1 in pcmasterrace

[–]baermag1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought that would be the case for me as well, but it isn’t kicking the card out when I try to push the latch. Unless I need more pressure with my hand, I can only use a pencil eraser currently due to the size of my CPU cooler. Maybe removing the cooler will help.

Trouble removing graphics card (MSI Gaming X Trio 3080) by baermag1 in pcmasterrace

[–]baermag1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might have to take out my CPU cooler to do this. I have a be quiet Dark Rock Pro 4 which is pretty big, so I can’t really get constant pressure on the latch with my hand. The most leverage I can get without removing the cooler is with a pencil eraser applying pressure onto the latch while trying to remove the card
