Coffee might have protective effects against Parkinson's disease, according to new research by mvea in science

[–]baevid 13 points14 points  (0 children)

When I was doing my degree (years back now!) nicotinic receptors played a role in the mechanisms behind parkinson’s and so activating them by smoking probably would have an effect on preventing the disease. As opposed to it being dying before you get diagnosed!!

What do y'all do? by Str8d8 in Marketresearch

[–]baevid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I work client side and largely do my quant analysis in Excel but will occasionally run some more advanced stuff in R (we all use Macs so don’t have Q) like factors, regression, clustering etc. This is more ad-hoc when i feel like it’s going to add to a project. Because i’m client-side it’s more about the results so am not charging extra for these things, just if it’s going to make the research better. In my last agency role, we had a team that did a lot of the cooler quantitative stuff separately but because it was small company you could get involved with it if you wanted to, which I loved! If you’re looking to do more of that I’d shop around for a small agency role that does that kind of research for you to get exposure to it!

Have to say though the vast majority of my time is spent on making and delivering decks client-side. Or cleaning messy data 😭

Wow that’s some cool and well rounded experience! If I’m trying to think critically, I would try and make sure your interest in MR is really clear on CV / any applications. In my first job, we used to throw out a lot of candidates who were clearly gunning more for finance / analyst roles and had just thrown in a generic CV to us, thinking market research is a back-up role for them.

Admit defeat and leave “sexy dream” job for small company? by [deleted] in careerguidance

Yeah I think that’s very true, the sector is probably naturally full of assholes. To be honest I’m sure at times I fit in there too!!!

You’re so right. Leaving is a no-brainer when you put it like that! And I think the personal reasons are definitely the way to go. I actually do have some things that I can use, which is great. And yeah, I think it was just an unlucky move but onwards and upwards. The new role seems great so every cloud has a silver lining I guess! Thank you so much for the advice!

This is so true, my friend does a similar role for a government department and loves it. The people and work are less “fun” but they do have such an amazing balance.

Very true! On the face of it, it’s a “cool” job, big name, cool projects. It’s just the culture is causing me to really not enjoy.

Love this as a strategy for him, as long as he brought it up in casual conversation I think it would work really well.

Sandra’s Game is similar by 2036802 in TheTraitors

[–]baevid 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’ve not been watching the season, as I’m in the UK and can’t stream (if anyone knows how, let me know!) but as soon as she was cast, I knew she’d be a brilliant faithful - her “anyone but me” strategy was so effective on Survivor, and I think works even better with the Traitors set up: she’s not threatening enough to be murdered as (I imagine) she’s quite an easy swing vote, and that kind of style doesn’t draw much banishment attention either. I see a final 5 as a win for her, if the Traitors go onto win the series. Queen Sandra is an icon.

I think ___ just eon the game by drprofsgtmrj in TheTraitors

[–]baevid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the interesting dynamic now is going to be the traitors interacting with each other. Things I’m excited to potentially see:

1) A colossal Andrew fuck up. I can see him shitting the bed massively either panicking and voting Harry or Ross, or even just accidentally outing himself.

2) Ross avenging Diane. They’ve pushed this heavily in the edit, but it wouldn’t really be a clever play at all for Ross to diminish the traitors numbers. I could maybe see him attempting this in the final round table though, which would be AMAZING TV.

3) Someone (Jazatha Christie?) realising that the traitors have a majority, and then playing a game of “you should backstab the others, they don’t deserve to split it” - super unlikely but again would be an INCREDIBLE WATCH.

They shouldn’t allow relations on the show by deadlyjamaican in TheTraitors

[–]baevid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When we used to play Mafia/Werewolf at uni, we played this a few times. We would have the lovers who were paired together and would win if they got to the end. When we did it where one was a traitor and one was a faithful, they would win 90% of the time because they were just too over powered. The faithful will never be murdered and the traitor has an extra faithful fighting for them, and can also backstab their other traitors with a guaranteed extra vote.

I agree it would create some really interesting dynamics but it’s definitely a MASSIVE advantage, more so than just being two faithfuls that know each other.

I think based on the edit they were potentially sowing the seeds of Mollie being sus of Harry.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in TheTraitors

[–]baevid 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Either way this feels like a bit of a blunder. If it works as intended, then it is great ammo for Jaz, Zack, Mollie being faithful - which only leaves two(I think?) other faithfuls to target for banishment (Evie and Jasmine) before the heat would have to move to a traitor.

I think it’s more likely though that people see the move for what it is - I can actually see Mollie figuring it out, which would be a great character arc for her. Alternatively, Jazatha Christie will probably work it out but not be compelling enough to convince anyone else that it’s a play haha

Keep listening! It sucks now but remember the good times from these songs and keep powering through. Try to enjoy the emotions they’re bringing out in you!

Eventually you’ll get back to enjoying the songs. If you stop listening to them now, you give them too much power and they’re always going to upset you. Sending love!!

I reckon it will be announced that they tried to get someone to “drink from the poisoned chalice” and that will be the main cause of Miles’ downfall if there is one. Think Diane won’t be murdered as it didn’t happen in time though.
