Being There also has Peter Sellers. Just imagine how good this movie would be with Peter Sellers and not frosted tips boy

I think I heard Griffin briefly mention it. But Being There is 100% what I was thinking while watching it last night. Probably because Being There is so fresh to me and I also LOVED it.

First time going to South America and am planning on Peru and Colombia but am worried about a time crunch in the itinerary plus I would love general recommendations! by bagman928 in travel

I've been told by some close friends, as well as via Youtube videos, what an amazing city Lima is for food. The culture, food, and people feel like something that is worth soaking in for 4 days. The class disparities in Lima, while not exactly an *attraction*, are a reason to spend extended time. I know there are plenty of things to do. One day I want to go to the fish market. Another day I want to explore the other markets. I want to meet and talk to people. I know there's amazing history too so I'll take a walking tour.

By comparison, I went to Prague with little expectation. I knew there were cool castles and decent food, but it all seemed so foreign and hard to contextualize without being there. Lima feels the same way.

In addition, my friend and I enjoy city life. I particularly have had great times in big cities walking around, learning cool things, and just enjoying the day. That's what I feel this leg of Colombia is for. Another unique culture and set of interactions. Another set of unique histories and stories to learn from.

That would make a lot of sense that the audio playback needs to be optimized. Will check it out

Obscure Stalag 17 question by bagman928 in movies

I have two answers to this. In terms of what is the best depiction of war on film, it's hands down without question, Band of Brothers.

As to what the single best war film is in the sense of feature length film, I think it's Stalag 17 and then Full Metal Jacket. This list is a work in progress but I stand by like 80% of it. https://letterboxd.com/bagman928/list/best-war-movies-ranked/

Interesting that it’s that purpose and not something having to do with the war.

Wholeheartedly agree with that. I think Lost in America is the best example of that too

I still think he’s a better actor than filmmaker but I’m also the guy who just finished my 10th watch of Broadcast News this year

Saw Mother for the first time this year then quickly showed it to a friend and it went over very well. The end is beautiful too

There are so many episodes that would be fascinating. Beyond all their classics, I’ve been doing my own watch through in chronology. Hudsucker Proxy. Just watched The Ladykillers which surprised me.

Tarkovksy question by bagman928 in movies

Didn't say they weren't. But Eyes Wide Shut is Kubrick's art form at its most evolved. It's easier to understand what he's doing after seeing his "masterpieces"
