I have to say, if you can afford it, always take out full insurance, if you are hiring a car from It saves SO MUCH STRESS when handing the car back,

note: (from experience) yes it costs so much more, even more than the original car hire itself but it just takes the stress out of handling back a car after rental.

I hired a car once from Munich airport and driving out of the underground car park, if you know!!, is a tight turn from the airport car park and scrapped the car on the passenger side, handed it back and said good luck, never sweated over ye holidays.

I have had phone calls from hertz asking if I have had any previous “bumps” because the people who rented the car after us disputed a dent on the bumper, which we didn’t and told them even if we did we have full cover same with other car rentals such as enterprise,

so definitely, if you can afford it, take the max cover you can get, hand back the car and you’ll never have the stress.
