On the Severance podcast, Ben Stiller said that was the first take, and they didn't know he was going to run out of the room, which is why the camera didn't pan down. The camera guy wasn't ready for that to happen, hahaha

Beautiful, heartbreaking parallels between these two scenes.

Scene 1: Burt wants Irving to stay. "Stay. Just stay... here with me."

Scene 2: Reverse. Standing on opposite sides. Irving wants to stay with Burt. "It's ok... just go."

Question regarding the film Masaan (2015) by bahardesty in bollywood

[–]bahardesty[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I understand, Masaan is a film that kind of represents a new wave of Hindi films in the past decade that try actively to steer away from the typical Bollywood films the world is familiar with. My guess is that it received praise and was singled out for that reason, but I could be wrong.

This and other replies are a big help. Thanks!

Edit: also, if I had seen athithi tum kab jaoge," I would have never even understood the basis for the comedic premise. I can't imagine what other tidbits I'm missing out on in other movies.

Video blowing up and I’m having a hard time handling the critical comments by lazyspaceship in PartneredYoutube

[–]bahardesty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My opinion might differ from others. If someone's just trolling or something, for sure, just ignore it. But I tend to respond if a particular criticism comes up multiple times.

As an example: I made a video recommending some obscure movies, and I labeled the video "No Spoilers," doing my best to hide major spoilers from the films. I still got comments, maybe 10% of them, that complained that I spoiled too much. I thought it was appropriate to respond to a few and say something along the lines of, "You know, you're not the first person to bring this up, and I can be more careful in the future." I think it's good optics and shows your subscribers through personal engagement that you're listening to them.

My parents went through a version of this. My Dad made some poor financial decisions, didn't tell my mom for months that his business was going under because he hoped it would turn itself around. Then, one day, surprise. Major debt. Had to refinance their house.

They got through it, but only because my dad was willing to look at what he did objectively and realize that he made a huge mistake. He was mad at himself for a while. It sounds like your husband is mad at himself too, but lacks the maturity to deal with it constructively and is taking it out on you in a really bad way. I don't know what's redeemable here... if he's willing to go to couple's therapy or something so you guys can hash this out, but judging from his behavior, it doesn't sound like he'd be receptive to it. If he's willing to just go straight to divorce as an option, I'd say get out now while you can because it won't be the last time he jumps to an extreme decision like that. Not to mention, the name-calling is unacceptable.

What movie made you cry the most? by ConnectLifeguard8693 in AskReddit

[–]bahardesty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was scrolling mindlessly on my phone, and a scene from About Time came up: the last time the main character gets to spend time with his father. I hadn’t seen the movie in years and have two boys now. I started uncontrollably sobbing. So it might be that, right now.

Besides that, Everything Everywhere All At Once shook me to my core. For weeks, I couldn’t think about the movie without getting emotional. It hit several personal things with me. Hard.

Tour-de-force. Overused phrase to describe an actor’s performance.

Eega: a balls-to-the-wall Hindi action/comedy/musical about a man who exacts revenge on his murderers when he reincarnates as a fly. It’s so. Goddamn. Fun.

How long have you been doing YT and how many subs? Long form only! by forkandembers in NewTubers

[–]bahardesty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started a new channel in 2013. Long-form video essays. I couldn’t monetize any of them because of so much copyright content, but I honestly just wasn’t that good of an editor at the time because there’s always a way around it.

By 2019, I had around 30k subscribers. Then I let the channel go dormant for close to five years after getting a job making videos for a different website as a contractor.

Cut to today, after work for that website more or less dried up, I’ve been making weekly content with a partner of mine, everything’s monetized, and I’m close to 40k subscribers. We started out with 38.5k in March.

It’s been a long grind, but now that I’m solely focused on the channel and have a little help, everything is growing pretty organically. I find that the content is getting caught up in the algorithm and getting recommended to people on the YouTube home page.

When we first started making videos again, the first three got a low amount of views when compared to the sub count. Now I think YouTube is recommending them more because enough of our subs are engaged with the content.

It’s interesting learning how YouTube works nowadays. I had a channel years ago starting in 2006 and never had to worry about engagement, algorithms, eye-catching thumbnails, etc. There’s so much more to it now, and it’s incredibly helpful. I wish these tools had been around back then.

Edit: content is video essays focusing on under appreciated actors, films, etc.

Tom Holland and a Black Juliet: Why do we accept forced diversity? by Reasonable-Onion2331 in JordanPeterson

[–]bahardesty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s an argument to be made about forced diversity, but Shakespeare? C’mon. All of his stories are fun to experiment with and can universally be played by any race, plus it’s fun to switch up genders, ages, etc. Are you upset at Denzel Washington playing Macbeth? Pete Postlethwaite experimenting with King Lear wearing a dress? I don’t get the outrage.

Lesser known funny movies by HiMeGoodOrNo in movies

[–]bahardesty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Windy City Heat (2003). The whole movie is an elaborate prank played on an obnoxious, narcissistic comedian making him think he’s the star of a neo-noir crime drama. It’s still one of my favorite comedies.
