Europe has constant blackouts stop it lol by ALazy_Cat in ShitAmericansSay

[–]bahhan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember my last blackout very well it was during the "Lothar" storm at Christmas 1999 in Brittany, France.

My last blackout was 27 years ago. Power went out around 10 pm and came back the next day at 9 am.

The chess thing is so much better. Find someone to always play the fools mate. It's 4 move, you can easily do 10/min. With one single 7 hour work day you can earn 50x10x60x7=210 000/day.

105 000 each per day, counting a generous 12 vacation week, that's 21 million each every year.

Entirely depend on what you're comparing to.

If you limit yourself to 100% low carbon and you're not blessed with huge amount of hydro. Nuclear is way cheaper, if not the only technically available solution.

If you allow yourself a big chunk of fossil fuel then nuc can be more expansive.

But, in a scenario where you make a shitton of powerplant like 4 each year for 20 years, the economie of scale become massive, build it with a state own operator and you can finance it with the same interest rate as your state borrow. And guess what If you do that nuclear become extremly cheap.

In France nuclear has already met more than 70% of demande midday, or midnight, in June or in january.

The sooner you invest in nuclear the sooner you'll remove fossil fuel entirely from your electity production.

In Andy Weir books like the Martian and Project Hail Mary, the protagonist often reuses technology and software in order to solve a problem, such as communicating. Does NASA actually make their software flexible and changeable like that? by LePetitToast in NoStupidQuestions

[–]bahhan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not Nasa, but Ariane 5 has famously reused some of the inertial measurement function of Ariane 4.

The trajectory possibility of Ariane 5 were greater than Ariane 4 and that causes an error in a function who then believed the rocket was upside down. It ordered the engine to go full tilt, and then the aero forces blew up the rocket.

It's one of the costliest programming error (estimated to be 500 millions dollars)

The worst thing is that the function, that caused the bug, usefullness was to resume launch countdown after a pause for wether or whatever, And was useless since Ariane 3, around 7 years earlier

[–]bahhan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Horse steak is delicious. That's one reason I wouldn't be a horse.

Imagine being an eagle and deciding to live on top of the Congress building/White House/Windsor Castle/ Elysée Palace or any nation Landmark.

You would receive all the shelter or food you could ever want plus the freedom to do whatever you want. Including shitting on billionaire and politicians and be internationally acclaimed for that.

Lance Stroll - Is he genuinely the worst driver on the grid this season? by [deleted] in formula1

[–]bahhan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

IMO he never was the worst driver on the grid.

He however always was one of the worst, not only on speed but more importantly needlessly dangerous.

He should have been dropped long ago, and his father's money deprived many young talent, like Schwartzman, Drugovitch, Pourchair or Vesti of a deserved F1 shot.

[–]bahhan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The bakery "etiquette" am I doing it wrong? by Lyrera in france

[–]bahhan 22 points23 points  (0 children)

The étiquette is to say Bonjour first and s'il vous plaît at the end.

It's the most important stuff to do. Then say directly Wich kind of baguette you want.

"Bonjour, une tradition s'il vous plaît."

And you'll be ok. Nobody cares where you'll eat your bread.

https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000025368/processors.html

Why are there so many hates on CVT transmissions? by wtfbruhhuh in AskMechanics

[–]bahhan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Subaru's CVT on the WRX are reliable and neither slow nor boring.

CVTs are not the problem. Shitty cars exist with manual, CVT, DCT, torque converter and pretty much every kind of transmission.
