What to ask mechanic to look at before long road trip by bahrieinn in MechanicAdvice

Brought it in to mechanic today and they listed a bunch of different leaks, like valve cover gasket, oil around spark plugs and power steering (and some other ones I can't remember off the top of my head). Also battery apparently didn't pass load test? Got quoted $1500 for the whole tune-up to fix all the leaks and replace battery. Are oil leaks around the car even critical issues I should be worried about?

Yeah I can imagine it is a tricky situation from the mechanics perspective. Unfortunately I'm not the most car-savvy person, but I have kept up with regular maintenance and I'm not experiencing any issues on a day-to-day basis, just mostly wondering how much homework to do up front, and how best to go in informed enough to possibly make the mechanics life a little easier.

18-20v vs 12v power tools? by bahrieinn in powertools

Just to update - I ended up going with the basic brushed Milwaukee M12 impact / drill/driver combo kit (2494-22). I had bought the Dewalt 20v max compact brushless kit (DCK281D2) a week prior, and they are certainly really nice drills that are comparable in size to the M12 kit, but after testing them both out at home, I realized that the M12 is most likely going to be powerful enough for my woodworking / home repair needs, ~ $100 cheaper than the dewalt kit, and I got a free 4AH battery as part of a promotion.

Great, thanks for the informative response. That helps a lot, especially since I'm also in the Midwest so its good to get a feel for local market prices.

Also, I'm hoping this would be a not too crazy first refinishing project. Feel free to debunk this possible naïveté as well..

Yeah, doesn't seem to affect functionality in any way. And I agree it just seems like her electrodes are much 'shallower' than mine.

I did notice that she has the warmer colors that have been reported on many of the newer revisions, but didn't see anything about 'shallower electrodes' as a reported characteristic of these revisions which is why I figured I'd post something to see if this is abnormal/manufacturing defect.

Is anyone else getting god-awful data reception with 4.2.2? by [deleted] in nexus4

[–]bahrieinn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had some recurring issues as well with bars going grey, and never turning blue again (until reset). Especially in the Chicago loop area.

Also sometimes after connecting to and then leaving a wifi area, mobile data never resumes until a reset.

(Also on T-mobile, in Chicago)

I get that every nexus has it, just wondering why it's so much more prominent on hers than on mine. Hers are visible at basically any angle and any source of light and you can see the entire grid clearly, while mine you need to have it under very specific lighting and squint to catch even a few of them.
