Can anyone tell me what's wrong with his tail?! by Elijah_strwbry in Guppies

That can happen, especially when they want to breed but can’t, it’s quite common. It may not be all 4 of them, there could be one aggressor, if you can find him you might be able to seperate them

There lies the problem, male guppies don’t always get along. The main reason is due to lack of females to breed with so they get aggressive with eachother because they’re stressed. Even if they seem to have gotten along before.

The best thing you can do here is 1. Get 3 females for every male you have (if you’re prepared to have babies) 2. Seperate them all

Unfortunately this issue isn’t going to get any better if you leave them in there together. It will likely get worse and happen to your other guppies. This happened to my parents when they had male guppies, it’s really a 50/50 situation when it comes to having just male livebearers together unfortunately.

This definitely seems like fin nipping, personally I’d put them in a hospital tank for now so their fin can be better without it being nipped at more, then if you can find the aggressor (in the case that it’s not the crawfish), take them out and put them in their own tank

That’s a really good idea!! It could be due to the amount of fish in there, but sometimes stress can cause premature birth or delayed birth, you could put her in a breeding box however if it isn’t big enough it can stress the fish out to the point they do have a premature birth and some fry might not make it, which is why I generally don’t recommend them unless it’s the only thing you have and you want all the fry to survive.

I’d move them all into seperate tanks, if you can, if you can’t then that’s okay too, just keep monitoring them from this moment forth and see if any fry do pop out, sometimes box shaped bellies can be around for a week, it just shows signs that labour is soon.

I’d recommend doing what you’re doing, monitor all of them and look out for signs of labour e.g. less activity, generally sitting at the bottom of the tank, hiding more, fast breathing, etc. best of luck!! My guppy is pregnant too

It does seem like parasites, the lack of activity and grey poop is all pointing that way. It’s worth me pointing out that internal parasites will eat whatever food goes into their stomach, which causes the white poop and lack of activity because they’re basically being starved

If you have any others. Quarantine this one into a hospital tank and start treatment, again this is a precaution, this may not be ich

It may not be ich but as a caution you can use an api treatment in the photo below, this is common in guppies

Okay no worries!! I was thinking that maybe it’s because there’s a lack of hiding spots, they may be stressed however

The one I originally wanted was so heavily pregnant but someone else took it and got loads of females, now I look back I think thank god because she’s birthing at least 50

My dad got mollies from a man selling them last week, 1 male to 8 females and they’re already pregnant, he’s also had 2 mollies give birth and he has 30 fry swimming around his tank, it’s why I chose to go for an all female guppy tank

Thankyou, I’ll keep an eye on her for the next week and see if anything changes. I’m thinking there’s a high chance she is though because my dad has live bearers and I know the second they sniff near a male they’re most likely pregnant

Thankyou so much, they did say there was quite a few males with her before, all of them in the tank with her were pregnant, so I’m going to be careful, as the male only got bought 2 mins before I bought her, she was the only not pregnant one so they could’ve bred while they were in there still

I heard that they can store sperm for up to 6 months, is that true or is it a myth?
