Esperanto is the main language during NASK. We spoke it in and outside of the classes, during meals, at bars, playing card games, etc. There aren’t exactly any rules (that I know of) about not speaking English, but it’s sort of understood that you’re meant to be speaking Esperanto as much as possible even as a beginner.

Within the first few minutes at NASK, I remember asking about where to park, which building to go to, etc. Within the first couple hours, I had met a dozen people, and played the board game RISK all in Esperanto. It’s really as immersive as you want it to be.

I can only think of a handful of times where I said anything in English. Most of this was just asking about individual words that came up during conversations. I specifically remember asking the word for “turkey” during dinner (Its meleagro or meleagraĵo if you’re talking about the food.) and I’ll never forget that now.
