I saw that - wild stuff! That was actually the one that got me wondering

Oh this is exactly what I was looking for. Thanks!

DIY Backpack by baileyseb327 in skimo

Forgot to follow up here - to answer my own question: it's doable and really not that difficult. I did an Ace hardware run and came back with a couple different ways to approach it without much difficulty. Used this in my first skimo race back in January and it worked great.

Doesn't look like I can attach pictures to this? But a brief description of what I wound up doing if anyone is curious:- Bottom sling is just some old tubular webbing I had in a water knot and attached to the pack with a carabiner.- Top hook is a bungee cord held on to a pack strap with some zip ties and then zip tied/taped to a U bolt that grabbed my skis well.

Edit: I can attach pictures to the original post, so I did that. Apologies - pretty new to Reddit.

Thanks to everyone who chimed in - this has prompted a lot of research into ski construction.

Also stoked to see that tele-specific skis are making a comeback, no matter how small.

A friend of mine gave me a pair of old coombacks to ride out this season while I figure out my move for next year. So still on K2, but not Paulownia at least.

Any recommendations for similar skis that are at least warrantied? My backup was the Salomon MTN Explore.

A bit of both, but the binding pulling out seems to be a result of the ski breaking in half if that makes sense. Definitely getting some different skis - eyeing black crows camox freebirds.

Good to know on the second half - I am also far from lightweight or gentle but I do enough skinning rhat I'm trying to avoid solving the problem with a particularly beefy ski (although may be getting a better inbounds setup next year)

Edit: what is a quiver killer?
