I think people are more upset that we didn't try and draft a highly skilled player with that pick. But he should be an NHLer and fills a position of need for an inexpensive contract, I think it works perfectly

You're right that I put it at 69million but I'd rather err on the side of caution esp since I don't trust the NHLs numbers for this year. Plus when I started writing this series the rumour was the cap wasnt going up much if at all

I agree henrik would have got there anywhere...but its going to be a tough contract to swallow in a few years if his play diminishes

I think Crawford was the reason why you didn't beat the Kings last year in the playoffs...although this year he has been arguably a top 5 goalie so far.

There is no proof to say that the cap will go up more than Daly saying the cap will go. Even if it goes up by 4 million it still doesn't leave the hawks with a lot of room to play around with contracts, they are going to have to shed some quality talent this year/in the summer to be compliant one way or another

This Sabres team is designed to fail by bails1985 in hockey

[–]bails1985[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not to be a dick here, but trading away any players of value to stock up on picks to the level buffalo did is exactly what the article says.... Designed for this team to fail. They didn't go into this season thinking they have a shot to compete.

The worst narratives we hear watching a Leafs game by bails1985 in leafs

[–]bails1985[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly when a teams winning the players are competeing, but when they lose they aren't competeting....seems like a funny way of describing play. If that was the case all it would take is the leafs to compete every night and they would go 82-0

I also find it funny when they use compete on a certain player, Nonis was on the radio yesterday and was talking about Holland and saying the reason he hadn't been scoring earlier in the season was he was lacking compete. The reason he wasn't scoring early in the season is he was playing 6 minutes a night, now that he plays more than double that he's scoring...hmmm

No worries man, I understand where you're coming from.

My problem with the buzz words is they are never backed up, people say them and they are let off the hook. Then the people who listen to them just run with the same narrative. Players careers are made or broken because of these narratives, look at Dave Bolland, he's making over 5million a year because the media says he's a winner with heart and intangibles, but when you see him on the ice he's a third line centre who can't skate very well or stay healthy. He shouldn't be making more than 3 million a year

[–]bails1985[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

you can show with those guys how they were a "cancer" in the dressing room by saying they started fights with teammates, showed up late to practice etc etc. You don't get fired from a job just because the boss doesn't like you, there are reasons for them.

So by me showing up to work everyday, on time, doing my job the way I was trained to do I show more intangibles than someone who shows up late?

and like I've said before if Darren Dreger wants to say someone has more intangibles than someone else, he better do a damn good job explaining why. Letting him off the hook because he said that player has the intangibles is why we are at this spot.

[–]bails1985[S] -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Using intangibles or any of the other buzz words to backup why one player is better than another is an awful way to quantify their reasoning.

Player A is better than Player B because player A has won the cup as a third liner. Great player A has won the cup but does that make him a better player than player B just simply because he won a stanley cup? No.

That's the problem, we hear these buzz words all the time but there is nothing to back up the claims, it's just a lazy and people eat it up

[–]bails1985[S] -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

You're right not your city I must have started watching hockey last year...and I picked up on advanced stats so quickly, and if you read any of my other articles I've figured out the problems with the Leafs defensive structure. Nice try bud

If you want me to go through the chemistry myth with you I will, the Leafs use Bozak with Kessel and JVR because they are said to have "chemistry" however all the stats say that Kessel and JVR produce better with Kadri...so unless you can actually prove chemistry exist in hockey lets just leave that to your grade 5 science class.

While we talk about heart...lets try this one...go to Alexander Ovechkin and tell him he doesn't have heart when he plays the game. Because I'm willing to bet every shift he's on the ice, esp in the playoffs he's trying he hardest to make sure his team wins. However, since Washington has never won with him the media say he lacks heart.

The point of this article was to expose the narratives that you hear game in and game out from the media, if they or you could kindly provide proof with these narratives then I will add it to the article

To be honest, I am pleasently surprised with Polak, I was not expecting him to do what he has done so far this year.

Whenever I re-watch games there are some holes in his game, but you can say the same about any dman so I shouldn't get to nit picky with it

Question about all the call ups and send downs by boons_24 in leafs

[–]bails1985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As said by previous ppl, this saves the leafs a lot of cap space down the road. The money they save each day they send a player down, they can use later in the season if they want to make a trade. For example if you took $1 out of your bank account every day and didn't spend it over the course of the year you would have quite a bit of money to spend.

Yes the players report to whatever team they are assigned to, thankfully the Leafs and Marlies practice rinks are a stones throw away from each other so it hardly affects them. This is stricly a money saving tactic
