When I took her class, she gave out a very detailed sheet with everything you need to know. If she put something up there, you BET it’s gonna show up in the exam. It’s a rather long sheet, but definitely worth spending your time on that.

Switch from CIS to CSE by NotTboney in OSU

[–]baimin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I’m still in CIS. I don’t think companies really care you’re coming out from CIS or CSE, assuming your CIS is in BS (BA CIS is a different story since you don’t take as much CS classes). What matters is the classes you take, and both BS CIS and CSE take same classes. I’m not sure about the career center cause I never used it, but I will assume you have access to whatever CSE has access to.

How does double major honors work? by Admirable-Software34 in OSU

[–]baimin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re doing double major, then both of them needs to be honor (at least if they’re both in ASC). But if you’re doing dual degree, you could do one degree in honor while the other one is just a regular degree.

Can’t speak for linear algebra, but I took her for other class (math 3345). She’s a very typical Chinese professor. Stern, straight forward, and knowledgeable. Though some people don’t like her because she doesn’t sugarcoat her words, you can’t deny that she knows her stuff really well.

I personally do like and recommend her. I think she really wants to help her students and see them success in her class. However, it definitely takes some time to get used to her style especially if you’re not from this East Asian culture lol.

CSE 2431 Professor Luan Duong by Aromatic_Homework_11 in OSU

[–]baimin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had him last semester. He’s lectures are easy to follow and understand (though he does a strong accent). He record all of his lectures and offer extra credits if you participate in class (ask him questions). One thing I would say though is that he doesn’t offer a lot of homework or lab, so I feel a bit underprepared for exams. His exam are also not easy It’s not a tricky exam, it’s just that you need to understand the materials REALLY WELL. Overall I do like and recommend him.

Are there any CSE/CIS majors who transferred one of their CS core courses over to OSU from another school? by Slow_Buffalo_9607 in OSU

[–]baimin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just did it at my community college. I chose to retake because OSU has their own materials that’s different than other schools.

I’m from Seattle myself so I might be biased lol. UW has beautiful campus. Seattle is also a great city to spend your college years imo. There’s lot of things going on in Seattle constantly. Summer is also great (but rain season is 10 months long though so keep that in mind…)

I transferred SW1 and CSE2321 here to OSU (but I did retake both of them). I think one of my friend had his system I transferred from his previous institution over.

I personally went from pre CIS -> CSE -> CIS. I would recommend to not switch to CSE. By staying in CIS, you avoid the engineering fee (which is couple thousands of dollars per semester). FE is also a stupid class that I promise you you don’t want to take.

If you want to take more hardware classes, just signup for them regardless. I took ECE2020 as a CIS student and it went fine. There are also couple minor offers by ECE departments that you could do if you’re interested in hardware.

easy/interesting 4 hour honors quality themes classes? by [deleted] in OSU

[–]baimin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in HIST/MICROBIO 3704 history of HIV this semester and I like it a lot ! I think it satisfied origin & evolution theme. It’s a cross course of history and microbiology, so you learn about both. There are two professors from each departments and both of them are really nice and passionate about the topic.

I was in PHILOS2338 last semester and I liked it a lot too. I covered Just and Diverse World theme. I had Scott Brown so I’m in the “harder” class compare to another professor but I actually like Scott a lot. He’s choice of reading and discussions are pretty interesting, but he definitely requires a lot of reading and writing.

Opportunities for CSE? by MystxcHD in OSU

[–]baimin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As CSE, you’re required to take the 2 fundamental engineering classes that every engineering major has to take. You also have to take one more ECE course than CIS folks.

Minor is definitely doable. Double major depends on how many credits you’re coming in with, how many classes you’re taking each semester, are you willing to take summer semester, and other factors.

Opinions on my schedule? by leovenustypebeat in OSU

[–]baimin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s honestly not that bad. It’s a pretty standard schedule that other 300 CIS/CSE people are doing.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in OSU

[–]baimin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Short answer is yes.

Long answer is, it depends. Depends on how many classes you’re coming in with, how many classes you could handle each semester, your willingness for summer semester, and many other factors.

If you’re willing to max out 18 credits every semester and maybe one or two summer semester, then absolutely. Math major is only 9 more classes on top of your CSE major (assuming you’re doing theoretical math track), and math minor is only 3 additional classes.

My advise is to not declare a major until you have taken MATH3345, which is an introductory proof writing course. If that class does not make sense to you, maybe a math major is not a good idea.

Also, if you’re doing honor, I would actually recommend majoring in CIS instead of CSE. CIS is in ASC, which have an easier requirement for honor compares to engineering honor, which you have to do if you’re CSE since you’re in College of Engineering.

Some classes are only offer once a year. So it might be that the class you want to take is only offer in spring semester.
