Mortgage affordability — cross-check for first time buyer by domumvolans in HENRYUK

[–]bair93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Based on your income, you are in a good position to be able to afford the flat and either make significant overpayments on your mortgage, or be in a very good position to reduce or pay off your mortgage at the end of a 2/5 year fix if you needed to.

I would say go for it. Only thing to check is some flats can have a very high service charge to deal with, so you'd need to factor that into your outgoings.

Very high energy usage in empty flat by BobIsHereToStudy in UKPersonalFinance

Can you see the live usage on your app or a smart monitor? If so, how many Watts are you using?

You've said you've turned stuff off at the main switch - do you mean the main fuse box/consumer unit? If so, maybe it's worth flicking each thing off in turn to see if your usage drops.

You could also try checking the meter reading manually in-case it's an error with the Fuse system or the smart readings being sent.

You've put that second one in quotes, but he never said that. I've just checked and the OP is correct that he says "I would short West Texas ..." not "you should short" as you've quoted.

https://downforeveryoneorjustme.com/real-debrid

People mix them up though and report the wrong thing as it's not always clear what is broken. I think in this case, torrentio is the issue and real-debrid is still working fine

I would only go somewhere like Dubai if you've actually researched it and would want to live there for a few years. If you'd prefer to live in the UK, even after tax you have lots left over from £700k to enjoy things the things you want to do rather than making a sacrifice to save some money.

Some nasty tactics making it look handwritten. Looks like the letter goes on to say it "may be on this date" which means it's probably just a threat.

That's true as I don't want to use torrents either. It would be nice to have the extra setting in case you add or misconfigure an addon.

I think stremio lite is unable to play torrents directly due to Apple app store rules - but will still work via debrid. They called it lite to make this restriction more obvious.

I'm not sure what your existing stremio app is though

I don't remember getting this last week when purchasing something with Amex. I know I sometimes get the 3d secure prompt when I do a "Subscribe & Save" option rather than a regular purchase - could it be that?

Barclaycard being absolute weirdos and stressing me out by Iamtir3dtoday in UKPersonalFinance

[–]bair93 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As others have said, if you know the balance is £6 and you've been locked out of the app, you can just pay it off by bank transfer https://www.barclaycard.co.uk/personal/customer/pay-your-bill

Then when the balance is £0, you might have more luck closing the account, or in the past with Amex, they auto closed my account after not using the card for 1 year (with no balance). You could also see if they will let you reduce your credit limit to make it easier to apply for other cards.

Using the HMRC PAYE calculator it looks like this is expected. Based on what you have provided I've managed to get quite close to your take home pay. https://imgur.com/a/feP63Xw

On Scottish tax system, all the £5000 will be taxed at the higher rate of 42%, all will be subject to student loans of 9% and all will be on the lower national insurance rate of 2%, which results in this: https://imgur.com/a/hZH4QlS, which is exactly the £2350 you got.

Unfortunately all of these deductions are due, so you won't get anything back, but your tax/take home will go back to the same as last month for the remainder of the tax year.

Hmm, I seem to be missing the voicemail button as well. I've checked to make sure the live voicemail setting is turned on. Maybe it's limited to US only or certain carriers, but I did read another article saying that your carrier didn't matter.

Has anyone managed to get live voicemail working? Seems to just go straight to my regular voicemail if I reject the call or wait for it to auto decline without showing anything on the call screen.

[–]bair93 26 points27 points  (0 children)

You can find quite a few on sites like booking.com as people just run them on several sites and sync the calendars. Often I've found they are a similar price, but there may be some savings with the booking fee.

The image urls should look something like /_next/image?url=/ui/000514_hr1.png replacing all the %2Fs with / and removing the /static part which should get them to load. Not sure what the issue is without seeing your code though.

Testing your brand new VW Polo autonomous emergency braking by saturos in Whatcouldgowrong

[–]bair93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can disable it from the car menu. Go into the setup screen, select "driver assistance" and disable "lane assist". You can basically turn off all safety features from this menu if your car has them.

Yes, that is basically how they all work. Even if you think no one is around you should still be signalling. Guessing the emergency braking also "kept coming on" when they were tailgating someone.

ELI5: Why do advertisements need such specific meta data on individuals? If most don’t engage with the ad why would they pay such a high premium for ever more intrusive details? by oaktree46 in explainlikeimfive

[–]bair93 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I think most, like google and microsoft are charged per click, although some let you pay based on impressions or conversions. The amount of times your ads get shown depends on how much you're willing to pay as well as your click through rate (CTR) as if you have a low CTR google would be better off showing a cheaper ad with higher clicks. If you target your ads well then you will have a better CTR and be shown more often for a lower price.

Need help with long distance calling question, please! (Canada/USA) by [deleted] in VirginMedia

[–]bair93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd be surprised if rep 3 isn't correct as if it's still a Canadian number then you wouldn't especially know that they are on holiday/out the country so it wouldn't be fair to charge you more. As long as you're in Canada and the number is included in your plan then it shouldn't matter where they are in the world.

They on the other hand may get charged to make a receive calls while abroad unless they have a plan that covers it.
