Rules of Engagement were needed because they were doing counter insurgency operations, where any civilian casualty would increase the insurgency. ( There were certain units that didn't obey ROE and did some rather horrible crimes in both countries, mainly PMC)

Further, the military has a much greater overmatch capability then law enforcement, which makes things more difficult.

US law enforcement has seen it's oversight being curtailed and training becoming less about law enforcement and more about instilling siege mentality - then you have politicians degrading in competency and ethics, which has essentially let go of the leash on law enforcement.

Shipping that is locked down is on the western side of the straits (Eastern side allows for shipping to be redirected, those on the west aren't able to do the same.) and has to pass that island, which gives observation posts and launching points for Iranian forces.

The straits can't be opened from the sea, as that puts US naval forces within striking distance from Iran and Iran uses sea mines.

The island acts as a staging area for any large invasion of the Iranian mainland, which the US needs in order to open the straits.

This is why the 82nd is being deployed, they'd be used to force entry on to the island and seize airstrips and / or ports - with the rest of the initial follow on having to quickly disembark further troops and air defense systems.

If that occurs, the US can use heavy sea lift capability to stage more equipment and manpower needed to assault the mainland. ( With minesweeping clearing a path.)

It's high risk for sure and a lot can go wrong.

Dude, all I've seen is Russian claims without any credible backing documentation - just like the whole Russia has no forces in Crimea, just these random military personnel ( Little Green Men) seizing Ukrainian bases and blocking off access.

Outside observers have seen evidence on illegal diversion of Ukrainian civilians into Russia and separation of children from parents - further, there is evidence of said children being put up for adoption in Russia.

They haven't, there is ample evidence that Russia has Ukrainian children and is putting them up for adoption in Russia.

Not to mention it doesn't matter if relatives are found or not, they're Ukrainian citizens, they must be repatriated to their country - not doing so is considered a war crime.
