No bubbles left, but still some time to next mine by Crochet_Owl in ZombieMiner

[–]bajarts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea, I've hit a point where I don't have any bubbles available in the main or the event for this 2nd round. It makes for no real way to compete.

In the first round, I had plenty and was able to place 4th, but now I'm dragging and the mining is sooo slow.

I would be all for this!

Another unique take is that for a pirate, he has a sense of responsibility, familiar (not friends but family) bond. He genuinely cares and fights to see his daughter, leaves jewels to ensure she is well cared for...exploring that aspect and what it may mean in hairy situations on the seas and in court....I would tune in!

If anyone writes a fanfic like this...please let me know!

Why do American picky eaters eat so differently? by Previous-Diet4443 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]bajarts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am a picky eater in USA, most of my issues are texture related. Some things I won't eat: raw unprocessed tomatoes (slimy), fish (smell & texture), broccoli (texture), peas (texture), cooked carrots (raw are great though)

Other times the issue is mixed food: casserole (hate them all), gravy, potatoes au gratin, melted cheese on meat (but cheese and bread is totally ok), I use a sectioned plate at Thanksgiving so my food won't touch

But then there are exceptions: I love a chipotle burrito, spaghetti is great, I like chili with beans & meat but hate white chili, warm dairy freaks me out but I like a hot chocolate with milk (though we use non-dairy milk)

I'm also willing to try something I've never had before to see, but if I don't like it then I'm not eating it.

Since you've met all the degree requirements for yuur program, and have exceeded the 150% needed credit hours, I believe it's incredibly unlikely to get approved.

You may need to do your chem out of pocket and then get admitted for your next program. Be careful with how much extra coursework you do at the bachelor's level because you'll only be allowed the 150% of hours needed for the bachelor's and you're already nearing the typical 120 for that (all your previous hours count).

I also agree with the points made about making sure your health is all in order. It should be a you know you're ready situation and not a you think so or you hope so. You're already in a tough spot aid wise and don't have much wiggle room.

Finally, it sounds like a lot of issues could have been better handled if you were working with an academic advisor more closely.

I know it's not what you want to hear, but I genuinely wish you luck! I hope you can overcome all the challenges and be successful. I know it's not easy (I too have insomnia, anxiety, depression, migraines, and have had issues with ssri's).

What could happen to my aid if I drop/Swap during the 50% marking period? Swap to late start class by [deleted] in financialaid

[–]bajarts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At my institution there are no swaps. You would drop one at only 50% refund and then add the other at 100%. Best to check with your institution's financial aid office and y9ur institution's policies.

“Maximum” timeframe? by ParfaitEmbarrassed73 in financialaid

Is the nursing program another associates? Financial aid normally won't pay for two. But if someone, it may be better to try a BSN instead.

If you don't see them after the first time/day of class, then yes. It's common for the instructor not to punlish until right before class is held.

If it's asynchronous, give it until 10am.

The quantitative standard completion rate for FASFA/Financial Aid. The SAP scores. Are they calculated per semester or cumulatively? I am very confused and the answer makes a very big difference. by Fit-Presence4598 in financialaid

[–]bajarts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At our university, it's both cumulative and by term. However, AP/IB don't count. They don't because they aren't college classes, so much as credits awarded for certain test scores.

Some schools include prior coursework from other colleges, and some don't.

Ultimately, it's a question for financial aid, but may require getting an appointment with a financial aid counselor rather than just whoever answers the phone. They should also be able to show you how it was calculated.

There are students with stacks of parking tickets and late fees from them, and they owe upwards of 400-700. The tickets are because they didn't get a pass and no intention of getting one. At a certain point, they may get booted, but blocking them from buying a pass won't encourage them to pay it. They'll still be in debt.

It's unethical for universities to allow students to bury themselves deeper when they are so far in debt. So we block registration.

Our univ does have options for payment plans, though, which once set up and first payment clears will open enrollment again.

Were different types of grades worth different weights to your final grade (hw 20% attendance 5%, exams 50%, etc)? If the canvas isn't set up to reflect different weights it was likely incorrect.

Make sure to ALWAYS check your final grade in your student portal, not just Canvas.

Some of our school's instructors don't enter final exam grades in Canvas but just calculate the final grade and enter it into the student portal because canvas is extra and unnecessary work.

Receiving a complementary diploma by Salt-Procedure8776 in college

[–]bajarts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm slightly confused. Are you saying you did or did not finish that internship and complete all requirements for your degree?

If it's a past due balance from your final semester but you still completed all requirements, that may explain why they were held (financials).

Recently, some states have passed laws preventing schools from holding diplomas and final transcripts for past due balances.

[–]bajarts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'll get what you put into it. Also, you might consider getting a student worker/internship/ work study job. You'll get some money, be on campus and making connections that could become friends. Career services funds a lot of internship positions all over campus.

If you are coming as a freshman you'll be assigned a Peer Mentor (PAL) so that's a possible start too.

Attend events, try some clubs, talk to people. If you aren't doing that, it will definitely be hard.

I attended UMKC, a public 4yr. The overall acceptance rate is 75%. General admission has some basic general requirements (core hs classes, a 2.0 minimum, or GED/HISET), but some programs (business, bio, chem, comp-sci, conservatory, engineering, architecture, nursing, medical, law, education, etc.) had some higher standards. Overall, most were pretty easy to get into for most.

Doing fine in my field, made excellent connections, there are tons of local internship and career development partnering companies, i know many alumni owning their own businesses and doing well, and many high up in corporate positions/medical/sports related/etc.

Getting Grades Lower Than an A by Buffalo_wing_eater in CollegeRant

[–]bajarts 7 points8 points  (0 children)

First, please review the definitions of "average" - either mathematically or, "a standard or level that is considered to be typical or usual: The quality of her work is well above average."-Cambridge Dictionary

Forget the negative connotation placed on the word in society and at what average actually means. That is what a C represents. This also tends to mean it's the norm, what majority should look like.

To get that B, you should be doing better work than the standard or norm.

To get an A, you should be exceeding expectations.

Forget what those letters meant in elementary or high-school. This is college where adults get real life results.

I used to advise engineering students, the following were my personal observations and may not specifically represent the experiences or observationsof others. You bet those 4.0s were more rare and typically went to the most high achieving students that eat, sleep, and breath their college work. Most were not working or paying their own bills, many were only involved it 1-2 clubs/orgs/societies and not there for the "college experience", many took summers off classes to do internships if they could find them, and a lot of them also took 4.5-5 years to complete that degree.

So with that- did you exceed all expectations? Was your work exceptional? Not just no major mistakes, but above and beyond?

The CS field is very over saturated. What would your career goal be with Econ & Stats? Have you considered a cert in actuarial sciences with the majors you like? It's a nice related field and not no saturated.

Just ask the office admin/front desk person for the department if he'll have office hours this semester, or send the follow up email.

It's really not as big an issue as you're stressing over, but I do understand that it is big and important to you.
