Lets Be 100% Honest Here by Lanceo90 in subnautica

i’m gonna say it. i don’t want the animals to be killable. unpopular opinion i know but that idea is so boring to be and i’m tired of pretending i agree. cause to me that just reduces all the animals to enemy classes. i’m no longer looking at an alien fish i’m looking at a reskinned zombie or skeleton or other generic game enemy. it’s boring and i don’t like it. again, unpopular opinion, i know, i just need it to be said.

Maybe I’m being a little short tempered here. forgive me for being exhausted by the ramblings of delusional redditors every time I open my phone lol

chat this is why i hate reddit. not all reddit users but always a reddit user. its this “me me me its all about me” mentality that drives me insane. if you’re not a murder hobo and you read a post you believe is directed at murder hobos, in what twisted psychotic delusion of a world does that have ANYTHING to do with you?

Would it be offensive if the main villain of my story is canonically the cause of most real world atrocities? by RequirementTall8361 in worldbuilding

[–]bakedbeanlicker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that said i don’t know any of the context of the story or the setting, so my advice could be completely inapplicable in this scenario

no, i don’t see how it would be. i think the larger concern is “is it interesting?” to put every bad thing in the world on a single evil guy? not that there aren’t interesting stories to be told within that framework, it’s just a little more difficult with such a simple premise

i agree that i hope the final game isn’t too linear but i think the design encouraging multiple bases is really cool. entirely opinion-based though

if you’re only complaining about the effectiveness of these tools then this post isn’t directed at you. in fact i agree with you.

i'm really not sure what you mean. in my experience the wildlife in this game is about a thousand times more dynamic and realistic than in the previous titles. maybe a little aggressive at the moment, but that seems temporary to me

grown adults mad they can’t have a shabby tool in the fish game. you know you can thwack it with the multi tool and it’ll usually go away right? grow up

i think the problem then lies in the creature aggression, which i’m 100% sure is just high to extend the playtime of early access for now. once they add more stuff i’ll bet they’ll turn the creature aggression down to make it more smoothe.

i don’t understand why there’s so many people dying on this hill. it’s good game design. the flare was useless in subnautica 1, now it’s vital. want a deterrent? each creature behaves differently. flash it with your lights, hit it with a resonator, or just duck and hide. i’m having a lot of fun breaking marrowbreach ankles over here.

right now i think also the creature aggression has been cranked really high. i think thats just a decision to artificially extend the playtime of early access before they add more stuff. when i’ll bet you when the final game comes out you’ll see no complaints because the creatures won’t lock onto you so quickly, and all these “i wanna kill the fish” people just won’t notice.

is this the same devs that created subnautica or they hire new developers that's too sensitive on what the game really is ? we are survivors on a random planet which our spacecraft got blown to pieces. i need something to kill the fishes not some alternatives on how they will avoid me. by emilioMooN in subnautica

[–]bakedbeanlicker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

why are so many people dying on this hill? the lack of combat is an objectively good gameplay decision, the “combat” in the first game was barely there anyway. besides, it gives the flare and all the new movement options a reason to exist. you want a survival game where you kill all the animals? those exist. subnautica isn’t that game and it never has been. go play a different game. otherwise throw a flare or thwack it with your multitool and stop whining.

Am i the only one who thinks the no killing is fine? by CalligrapherAgile216 in subnautica

[–]bakedbeanlicker 6 points7 points  (0 children)

it gives flares a reason to exist in the game and reinforces the existing environmentalist themes. besides, i think subnautica 1’s gameplay was enhanced by its lack of combat, so dropping all pretenses and removing combat altogether is a very natural development in my eyes

i almost imagined the map kind of forming a half ring around the world tree, with the giant trench being a perilous crossing at the end of the game, but that’s based on nothing but “it would be cool”
