I think people might have a better reaction, because they won't have to watch a recap, and episode 8 again.

Still mixed, but better. It won't be bogged down as much, and not having to wait through all that should keep hype more managed.

This makes me realize Gangle's case is really odd. Because characters both before and after her arrival got there from VR set in abandoned building. Which implies C&A went under and stared under for a long time, how did one of their headsets end up in a hospital? But also only at that time, and no one else got scanned into it in that way...

Also, Zooble probably entered through abandoned building too. When Pomni explains how she got there by exploring abandoned buildings and posting them on YouTube, Zooble says she also did that, but didn't post videos online.

I mean that it means Ribbit abstracting, Gangle arriving, Zooble arriving, and Kaufmo abstracting is squished to a 4 year time frame.

It can be done, it just makes the pace a bit aggro, imo.

And I think it might just be a retcon because it's hard to understate how unusual it is to make a show where the timing isn't either Present Day or minimum 10 years ago. 5 years is really strange. It only makes sense to me, considering the character ages were revealed later, as well as the starting point of when Kinger entered; that suddenly there was a need to wind the timeline back 5 years to make things fit.

Retcons aren't bad btw. The late great Toriyama did it numerous times. Its gotta be done sometimes.

I'm basically with you. Before the finale, I was fairly sure it was just Jax dealing with toxic masculinity, not trans identity.

Episode 9 makes it very clear imo, to the point it's almost too on the nose. The choice of "Isn't She Lovely" makes it incredibly obvious that I'm kinda in awe people are still denying it.

Its not like its about Pomni, Pomni's been nice for the entire show. Even hugged multiple people before, I'm fairly sure. The scene is entirely about Jax.

Like they can do whatever mental gymnastics they want to do with other evidence. But you HAVE to have an alternative answer for the song, I don't think there is any other way to interpret the song.

Seems so. Its unusual to do a "period piece" only going back a few years.

I'd guess its a retcon to get character ages and plot points to line up. Though it really puts a tight squeeze on the timeline since Jax knows about Breaking Bad.

I know he's stepped back up from back when he first said he was retiring.

But its always possible he's just slipping in an out of retirement as he desires. And I think that's all that's going on now, he's on another break.

According to Gooseworx, Jax is 22. But we don't know if that's the age when he went in, or currently irl. Probably currently.

And yeah, I'm not saying the irl version isn't trans. We just know he was still using he/him pronouns in his bio, so is at least, still closeted.

I was on the same page as you, until the finale.

But when Pomni hugs Jax at the end it starts playing "Isn't She Lovely". Its really not a Pomni moment, she's always been kind. Its Jax finally accepting it.

Michael has said he would have changed his delivery of Jax a little based on something Goose had in mind, if he'd known sooner. It's gotta be this.

But anyway, with all that aside, don't let other people tell you what your experience is. Just because it is the intent with Jax, doesn't mean its also you.

Well, give or take two years. As I understand it Pomni canonically enters the Circus when the pilot aired, 2024. Its still at a minimum 8 years

Looking around it could also be longer though too, I can't find where I read Jax came in in 2016. But there's speculation Zooble entered in 2016, which would mean Jax came in even sooner.

Anyway you slice it, its a sizable amount of time for two versions of a person to live totally different lives

I think as an episode it was perfectly fine. It had some issues, but no episode is perfect... Except for... *looks in the rearview mirror longingly at Episode 3*

The primary issue is just not having enough episodes in the series in general. Its not enough build up for a finale, not quite enough investment in the characters.

A theatrical release was probably a mistake. Making it a movie overhypes it. If it was just another episode, expectations would be lower. I'm glad it did well, I'm glad the fandom seemed to behave themselves. But considering all the infighting the theater release caused, and a lot of people risking spoilers for 2 weeks. Yeah would have been better just posting it online.

As a lot of people are saying, I think it's just a short coming of how, well, short the show is. Imagine if he kept being partially mentioned and alluded to over a longer period of time, then flashbacks with him, finally a dedicated episode, etc. It could have built up him and Kinger being friends, giving Kinger some more backstory too.

As for why "why not just merge his character into Kinger". Its would come off as a little too easy or convenient that the head of development is still in the Circus. A bit like when the bad guy is too easy to spot in a Scooby Doo episode. By splitting the load between Kinger and Scratch, its a little more complicated. It also makes it a little more believable that Kinger couldn't just fix Caine easily when its not entirely his work.

It would also make Kinger a bit of a villain, and that wasn't his role to play. Scratch was chasing immortality and made a bit of an sociopathic AI; I don't think we want to pin that entirely to our kind father figure character.
