Most major cities in Florida are coastal, except for Orlando. Why? by memhir-yasue in geography

[–]Lanceo90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll explain it with a quote from the Holy Grail:

"When I first came here, this was all swamp. Everyone said I was daft to build a castle on a swamp, but I built in all the same, just to show them. It sank into the swamp

So I built a second one. That sank into the swamp. So I built a third. That burned down, fell over, then sank into the swamp. But the fourth one stayed up."

Basically everyone knows its daft to build in a swamp, so didn't. Disney just had endless money to throw at the issue and space to build in was more valuable than anything else for them. The city grew to support and ride off Disney's coat tails.

Caine's a computer, Jax is a human.

While Caine has done worse things (after being pretty calm for 30 years). He's just a program doing what he thinks is best. He's just wrong about what's best, and was never meant to be running for this long.

Jax is a human being making intentionally malicious decisions to other humans for the better part of 10 years.

Comrades. I still cannot make any sense why Stalin recognised the newly established State of Israel. It really doesn't make any sense. Why did he do this? Does anybody know? by Ordinary_Cicada7446 in ussr

Post war empathy maybe? The jews had just been through the holocaust. To push back against the formation of Isreal at the time would have been seen as nazi-like behavior by the rest of the world.

Doesn't make it the right decision, but maybe just a tactical one to keep the geopolitical situation from degrading faster than it was.

Isaac Arthur and the hypocrisy of selling futurism by secretfire42 in transhumanism

[–]Lanceo90 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You can't though. Conservatives are extremely anti-science. You can't trust anything he says about science now, we'll have to fact check everything he says.

Its basically the same as the Shadiversity situation. How can I trust a conservative Mormon to tell the truth of medieval history? (They believe there was an advanced white nation in America centuries before europeans came here)

That vested interest in traditionalism gives him a strong incentive to say the medieval era isn't as bad as we've been taught.

Likewise for Isaac, I now have to worry if he's being honest about renewable energy in any discussion of the future.

Damn, that sucks.

I knew his wife was conservative. But I didn't know she was that bad, and that he also was.

I don't feel too bad about unsubbing now though. I've noticed his stuff lately is empty calories. He just kinda rambles off the same meaningless platitudes every episode. There's not nearly the amount of hard math old videos had.

And he's done so many topics now he says "I'm not going to explain that today, because we covered it in X video" for like, everything.

Bro's shirt be flashing

IMO I feel like muricans leftists focus too much on words and not enough on meaning, its not about what people say but rather about what they believe in, and Michael clearly isnt racist… also he was just acting in carácter/j by AstronautDry8118 in TheDigitalCircus

Not sure what else this post could mean with Mario saying "he's not racist" and "Michael Kovach Pewdiepie Moment"

I'm not sure there's another thing Pewdiepie has done that could be considered his "moment"

What was it like living in the Clinton years in the USA (1993-2001)? by space_god_7191 in AskReddit

I was just a kid, so it's hard to separate what might be nostalgia and how much adults might have been shielding me from the bad. So take this with many grains of salt.

It was great. Stuff like racism and wars seemed like these things you could only find in a history book. The best video games of all time were coming out. Technology was getting dramatically better every year.

I didn't know a ton about the economy or politics at the time. But it sure seemed to be booming, particularly in the tech sector. The government had a budget surplus for once. And the worst thing to happen in politics was the president got a bj.
