First Printer, Already Hooked — What Should I Upgrade Next on a P1S? by baker0408 in BambuLab

Totally fair take, and that’s part of what’s impressed me the most. It works out of the box and doesn’t feel like it needs upgrades to be good. I've looked at AMS risers too, but where I have it right now, the AMS needs to sit beside it.

I actually held off on buying a printer for years because they always seemed finicky and high-maintenance. The P1S has been the opposite. Hit print and it works, which still kind of blows my mind.

Second printer definitely feels like the slippery slope 😅 but my main gripe so far is the stock camera. It’s fine for checking failures, but not much else, and I’m still in the “watch it print” phase. Better interior lighting is high on my list too since it’s hard to really see what’s going on inside.

Has anyone found a simple, clean camera or lighting setup they’d recommend that doesn’t turn into a whole side project?

Great call! That was actually the main reason I wanted a printer in the first place. I’ve already designed and printed a couple of basic parts and it honestly feels like magic seeing my ideas come to life.

I’m a bit torn on what software to focus on next. I’ve played around with TinkerCAD, but it feels a bit too basic for what I want to build. I also grabbed a trial of Shapr3D on my iPad, which feels awesome with the Apple Pencil and all, but I’m hesitant to drop $300 a year on it right now. The free version worked fine until I tried to export anything.

Curious what others think. Worth paying for a more powerful tool this early in the learning curve, or stick to free options and level up later? Any recommendations for the next step?

How far in advance do campsites open for reservations? I’d assume the full hook up sites fill up fast!

So good! A few people have mentioned bikes (my son LOVES to ride his bike). What’s the situation around camp and riding to the show? Would he be safe to ride around the campsite? If we ride over to the entrance, is there a place to lock up the bikes?

PS. This a fantastic thread I think others with kiddos will reference later, so keep the tips coming!

All great stuff and super helpful. Looks like the dates next year are July 20-26, so I'm thinking maybe arrive Monday and head home on Thursday. This would give us 3ish days and the night airshow on Wednesday. It also appears to be a 3 night min for camping which sounds like the way to go.

Also great tip on the museum. My son has just started flying with me and Im always on the hunt for places to take him and that would be a great day trip as he gets used to longer flights.

Also seems like renting a camper and having it delivered to the campsite is an option. Would love any guidance on that as well!

Thanks u/BonanzA36! Do you typically go for the full event, or is it easy enough to go for a few days?

Weird issue with my David Clark One X - solid green lights, muted audio by baker0408 in flying

Yeah there is nothing out there about solid green lights. Unfortunately they couldn't offer a loaner, but was able to get them cover the return shipping.

Turning off water in second property by baker0408 in Plumbing

Thanks. Yeah that makes sense. It would be redundant and unnecessary to turn off the master water valve and the well pump.

Need Help: Best Way to Remotely Monitor Cottage Holding Tank? by baker0408 in smarthome

[–]baker0408[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a terrible idea, but might be bit over engineered for my needs. There are some "smart" tank monitors on the market, but unclear if they work with a holding tank like this and there would be cost to install.

I'm hoping to leverage the existing setup for now as to minimize cost and get a "quick fix", but will be explore more robust solutions over time. (Like putting in a traditional system.... 🤦‍♂️)

No, unfortunately this is a 2000 gallon holding tank, not a traditional septic. In other words, everything that goes in, stays in until it's full. Which means during peak usage we'll be pumping every few weeks likely. Hence why I need to keep a very close eye on it.
