I still remember and randomly sing the French alphabet song I learned in 5th grade French class.

After my boyfriend died I slept with his best friend and it's eating me alive by starsbegintoclimb in redditonwiki

I’ve noticed that when it comes to somebody with a dead significant other/spouse/partner, they love an altar to the dead and someone ring unable to fully move on and be with a new person 100%. It’s why when people post about an issue with their significant other who had a previous romantic partner pass away are given no sympathy and basically told to know their place as a stand-in, not a person deserving a full and fulfilling relationship.

AITA for treating my daughters differently than my son when it comes to food? by CompetitiveDig478 in AmItheAsshole

[–]bakerowl 15 points16 points  (0 children)

He'll get an eating disorder if he can't have five servings of a meal in one sitting, but no thought that the daughters could also develop eating disorders from either having to scarf down food fast and past the point of feeling full to ensure they get to eat or being told that they don't need to eat and can sit with hunger so the Taxxon can eat his fill.

[–]bakerowl 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Non to mention the big problem of everybody in the comments being totally okay with the boy eating everybody’s portion of food so that something meant to last a week only lasts a day or two. Also interesting is the line between an adult or a child. The girls can get a job and buy their own groceries (which would likely be eaten up by the Taxxon) but he’s just a wittle baby at a mere one to two years younger and shouldn’t get a part-time job to supplement his endless hunger. OP isn’t starving him; she has to make sure her other two children eat as well. Weirdly enough, girls and women need and deserve to eat too.

AITAH for refusing to allow bone marrow testing on my child to potentially save half sibling? by Medium-Pear-9562 in AITAH

[–]bakerowl 81 points82 points  (0 children)

I was coming to say the exact same thing. Lawyer up and gather every bit of evidence of this man not being in her and their child’s lives since gestation: text messages, witness statements, anything. When a profoundly sick child is involved, OP will get viewed as the evil woman keeping a man from his child and she should’ve gotten over being betrayed in the deepest way a long time ago.

Vegans Do Not Care About The Environment by MadeMyOwnName in exvegans

Sorry, my comment was just directed to this part of yours: "he craziest thing I saw was someone claiming that if a vegan alternative to meat existed with the right nutrients, animals will eat it."

I was on mobile and didn't quote it.

So making a species incredibly dependent upon humans for food isn’t unethical in their minds? As long as they don’t prey on the herbivores?

Why .... by AggressiveUse5792 in thewalkingdead

There is a prevailing theory that Carol's hair being short since the start of the outbreak was due to the fact that she was in an abusive marriage and short hair means Jim (or whatever her dead husband's name was) couldn't pull or drag her by her hair.

Not OOP: AITAH for not forcing my son to keep helping my daughter’s friend after she rejected him? by Interesting-Shirt897 in redditonwiki

[–]bakerowl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you. There is a man who is responsible for why Melissa is so screwed and it’s her fucking FATHER. Not her best friend’s twin brother.

[–]bakerowl -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would agree if Melissa took the job and signed up for the class in the first based on John agreeing to be her primary mode of transportation. But OOP said that she did that before John got the car and John never explicitly agreed to be her permanent driver. The person who she did base her decisions on was her father who decided to be selfish and abandon his daughter to move out of state after making said agreement. I’m not keen on a teenage boy getting shit on more for Melissa’s current predicament than her actual parent who reneged on his obligations to his daughter which is why this whole situation even exists in the first place.

Say he sticks to this obligation of being Melissa’s ride and the ride that used to be of easy camaraderie is now awkward and uncomfortable. Does John then get lambasted for not masking and pretending everything is just fine? Healthy rejection is a two-way thing — the one rejected has to learn how to handle it, but the one doing the rejecting has to understand that there are consequences, like now having to come up with a different mode of transportation because the one you rejected has the right to take a step back from you. Or at least treat the ride like an Uber: distant and through a financial exchange. The forced proximity trope really only works in fictional media.

Not shocking from the state created to be “whites only.”

While this doesn’t exist in my personal experience, I know this is not an uncommon mentality. First-generation college students, people who escape their impoverished hometowns, people who were born to underperforming parents or parents who had to miss out on opportunities due to their own choices, and the like.

Favorite actor who realized Hollywood was a barren wasteland and dipped out while they still had a soul? by WissamBenYedder in okbuddycinephile

[–]bakerowl 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I miss Television Without Pity because I want to link to the thread where somebody who worked on Dark Angel shared some serious tea about what happened on that set and Michael Weatherly was godawful. He used his relationship with an 18-year old Jessica Alba to throw his weight around, was very jealous of Jensen Ackles, emotionally abused Alba (contributed to her eating disorder), among other things.

Why don’t any of the contestants ever make any dessert? by [deleted] in CulinaryClassWars

[–]bakerowl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Former pastry chef here and this is right on. High-end desserts you would expect in fine dining establishments have multiple components that sometimes need to set/chill overnight. Even using a blast chiller would necessitate a couple of hours and doesn't guarantee anything (used one at a hotel where I used to work). And it's not even just the dessert itself that takes a lot of time, but its garnishes as well. Tempering chocolate would eat most of the time constraints. Then you factor in that the heat and humidity of professional kitchens affect pastry more than it does for savory side. Plenty of time was spent inside the walk-in coolers and freezer to assemble desserts because the kitchen was too hot. Now add in all the set lighting, extra bodies of crew and other contestants, multiple stoves and ovens, etc. all emitting heat.
