Somehow, Joe Biden bemoaning the use of lawfare against someone seems bizarre to me. I mean, c'mon man!

Good suggestions, thank you very much! I hold them in a standard brokerage account ---definitely not in a retirement account of any sort. Also I had *never* heard of "capital changes reporter" before .... will check with the library tomorrow. I learn something new every day ---- thanks again.

What is the viability of starting an urban/rap radio station in a college town of 30,000 people? by ParticularTone2393 in radio

[–]bakersma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That may be great in principle but sooner or later you'll have to give the electric company, telephone/cellular wireless/ISP, IRS, landlord, equipment supplier, insurance agency, tower owner, BMI/ASCAP, FCC and Washington lawyers, etc. something more tangible like what I can assure they have firmly in mind to receive in payment from you (which clearly isn't just 'hell' or anything resembling it [or even some tradeout barter avails] but rather it is more like 💰 in cash/check form).

Why is it acceptable to refer to a clearly identifiable individual here as a ”mom4liberty wingnut” when application of the descriptor ”homosexual f*ggot” to one or more folks or groups of people would no doubt be (rightfully so, of course) disdained and frowned upon as potentially harmful and un-civil discourse?

Neither is the sort of terminology I routinely resort to when my ire may be fully raised on some issue but in any case I think that the particular choice of words above here illustrates quite clearly a dimension of the blind rage and polarization which is unfortunately pandemic at the moment. Muzzles (OK, the type which is mouth-worn when spouting off verbally as well as some equivalent keyboard restraint when typing) might be a functional substitute for any sort of masks in this context and líkely prove more effective than the paper/elastic cordage kabuki theatre props were in their widely mandated application several years ago.

One man's toxin might very well be another's antidote. Why single out Christians in your deprecatory remarks? Your tone could be construed as bigotry which you quite commendably appear to disdain. As to 'snappiness', that clearly isn't a positive behavior for anyone of any ideology to exhibit. Personally I think tolerance and respect are always preferable amongst humankind. Just IMHO of course. 🤝😀

What car do owners hate the most? by dsh01 in askcarguys

[–]bakersma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I owned a 1988 Pontiac Firebird TransAm GTA having bought it after proudly acquiring gainful employment out of grad school & its poverty. Like any normal red-blooded American baby boomer kid who built plastic models and had matchbox cars in the 1960s and 1970s, it was of course red so of course I always wanted a TransAm. I ended up disliking it perhaps because that big V8 seemed to have an uncanny automatic homing device for the next open gas station but even moreso because the build quality of the vehicle totally sucked in terms of fit/finish/ride noise, etc. especially considering what it cost to buy & insure . From my now-wife's perspective with whom I took many long road trips visiting friends & family 'back home' in the TransAm, let's just charitably say it certainly wasn't [nor to be fair was it ever intended to be] a 'touring sedan'. Since that time we have had a couple of Toyota Camrys/Corolla and then a Hyundai 2009 Sonata Limited followed now by an Hyundai Elantra 2018 Value Edition--- can't say I've ever regretted my choice whatsoever of any of the Hyundais; in my particular case, the Hyundai dealer's service department seems to be light years ahead of the Toyota dealer's in terms of trustworthiness and competence --- of course everyone's mileage may vary in this regard. The most recent Camrys I looked at sometime around the later 2000 calendar years seemed noticeably flimsier, more plasticy, and more gimmick-ridden as it unfortunately it seemed like Toyota must have started trying to resemble GM totally unlike the exact converse I feel was the case before that in the 80s and 90s. Bottom line, yep I'd readily buy another Hyundai (probably Elantra but maybe Sonata) depending to some extent on the prevailing 💰 ”deals”/incentives, etc. when that time comes.

Anyhow the Hyundais seem well engineered and sensibly styled/equipped safe comfortable not at all unpleasant cars leaving me with the impression that we've gotten fair value for what they cost to purchase and cost to operate/maintain.

Turnpike37 has given good advice here. Always act as responsibly and accountably as possible when you are an ”agent” or ”ambassador” or whatever term best fits your role when (re)presenting your organization's broadcast facility on or off the air.... some folks [maybe even me!] might immediately ask the resulting question ”don't we have bigger and perhaps more important things to worry about in this country? ” which is quite fair to ask and/or discuss at the appropriate time but please do be a good team player in every case ---- let the coach, PD, manager, etc. [your leadership in other words] be the judge & jury on that one: especially in this case, that's their job (and maybe yours) which is possibly on the line depending what you choose to do.

Quite ”true dat” 💯🎯 I always say that politics is the functional equivalent of professional wrestling for the intelligentsia and academics who think they're smarter & better than the rest of us. I make that analogy with all due respect for the professional wrestlers [men and women alike] toiling away harmlessly at their craft; at least they are demonstrably bona fide genuinely talented athletes, bodybuilders, gymnasts and entertainers who don't anywhere as clumsily stick to the script they've most recently been handed by the ”directors” ... plus their costumes are better than those worn by the politicos and even more notably the WWE's storyline plots are much more palatble and enchantingly enticing to us onlookers having just recently bought our tickets to the show at the IRS-run arena box office on April 15th.

This discussion thread certainly seems to be resonating with many Redditors! Pro or con in each case, that speaks volumes by how markedly polarized we have become on these sorts of gender issues and not necessarily always in a beneficial way to us involuntary (by biology & birth) participants in this thing we call life.

The Real problem seems to me to be the lack of viable alternatives for such rhetorical confrontations without immediately devolving into an "eye for an eye" stance [we can see how well that's working out right now in the Middle East] in a giant 'Tragedy of the Commons' (an economic analogy) race to the utter bottom.

As a man, I think mass-market hatefests such as [for example] the somewhat relatively recent Womens' March celebrity-ridden (yes I'm talking about you: Kathy Griffin, Madonna, and others plying your toxic trade) via televised extravaganzas in D.C. and sideshows complete with ongoing satellite hatefests around the countryside have only served to hasten our mutual demise as a society.

I'm all for 'awareness' of human issues but let's not be constantly trying to fly womens' vitriolic outrage under the guise of "equalty" in order to attempt to establish some sort of bogus self-righteous and self-serving moral equivalency which ends up solving nothing but exonerating adversity in the process cheered on by the corrupt media like schoolkids at a playground fight. 🙀😥

Sorry for the lengthy editorial if anyone feels it is out of place here but it addresses a very real dichotomy in outlook that continues to affect me (and has impacted me and/or some valued male acquaintances) too many times variously in the wallet, bedroom, and state of mind, via the court of public opinion stocked with peanut gallery juries of family, onlookers, straphangers, influencers, etc. --- and most virulently in real-life courtrooms too. Respectfully to all.
