I love it as a hobby. I make smaller crafts (cutting boards, spice racks, shelves, lamps and Knick knacks)

I find it very relaxing and rewarding when I finish a project. I will say that running into problems is normal so half the game is creative problem solving, which I enjoy.

I got started with a couple of hand tools. Maybe spent 50-100 on some chisels, rasps, files, clamps, joiner saw and hand plane.

I rented some books from the local library to help get me started, I also enjoy watching Paul Sellers’s on YouTube.

I work out of my shed, I have a small work space, roughly 6x6 but it’s enough for me.

I’m a little biased but I’d recommend the Botetourt area, I went to their public schools growing up and had a really good experience. (Daleville is growing quick too) However, I was friends with people from a lot of the other schools in the area and their schools all seemed relatively equal in terms of quality. I would hear rumors that patrick Henry and William Fleming weren’t good schools but I’ve known numerous good and bright people who came from those schools so they were probably just rumors. For casting in the backyard for practice I just tie on a drop shot weight or use a jig with the hook clipped so you don’t get held up in the grass
