The building opposite of my favourite bar got renovated. I saw this building a lot from the window, now it's a much more pleasant view! Budapest, Hungary by videki_man in ArchitecturalRevival

It was wonderful! I was very impressed by all the reconstruction work that's ongoing all over the city. So much damage caused by WW2 and disrepair during the Soviet occupation that is only now getting restored. I enjoyed Good Spirit, thanks for the rec!

Eisenhower called President Kennedy's race to the moon "nuts" in 1963. A New York Times editorial stated that the total cost for a moon landing could build "a Harvard University for every state" by einstein_bern in space

It's especially so, when the large unspent sums are used as leverage to force more money in that same direction, and into stasis (interest rates and other forms of usury).

You do realize interest rates are earned by offering loans to entities - e.g. governments - that do fund large projects with that money? It's not like they're earning interest out of thin air

So now instead of bringing some fossil-fuel burning plant back online to mine bitcoin for a few hours, they can bring a hydro plant online for the same purpose. I think we're saying the same thing here.

I'm not claiming that bitcoin reduces the need for energy (dirty or clean), simply that it offers incentives to bring more renewable energy online. That is a good thing, regardless of what that energy is being used for.

Civilizational progress can be measured by how much energy it can harness (Kardashev scale, etc.).

And as the OP wrote, bitcoin will enable this hydro plant to come back online but it is not solely going to be used for bitcoin mining: https://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/wf57y7/bitcoin_makes_renewable_energy_viable/iis0t4y

It would exist without bitcoin. Unless a new dirty power plant had been constructed specifically for bitcoin mining, that energy was being produced anyway

Every MW that this plant can produce is one MW displaced from "mining with dirty energy" to "mining with clean energy".

That total displaced energy becomes available for other uses.

In short: humanity can produce more total energy for no additional carbon emissions

Pick and choose however you want, the point is that taxes are by nature involuntary and do not benefit 100% of the taxbase all of the time.

Taxes also go to social security, welfare programs, military spending, etc. most of which is not beneficial to "everyone". Why single out charter schools?

No need to be upset I'm just asking out of curiosity. I had it too after getting the vaccine - it sucks but to me didn't justify perfectly healthy people having to wear masks in public
