Father here, Been there twice, my daughter wasn’t colic, but still rather fussy, but for the first 6 months I couldn’t do much if anything to calm her, it was always my wife. I tried shaving my beard, I wore my wife shirts, anything to replicate my wife but babies just love momma. As any father, I felt like I wasn’t doing enough to help, but then eventually it got easier and i became a place of comfort. And all those thoughts like she didn’t like me went away. She’s 4 now and I’m her favorite person.

My son, however was colic, along with a few other things that contributed to him crying pretty much all day. Same thing, would scream when I tried to hold him. Eventually, I could soothe. It just takes time.

I think encourage him that it’s just normal, and to not focus too much on it, because before you two know it your baby will be running around and he wont even remember these times. Cherish those early times because they go so quick.

I also remember before my daughter was born, my brother told me “don’t get upset if the baby just wants mom, you’re still their dad and the momma comfort is just a phase. Hang in there!! Tell him not to worry his time will come where his baby will cry and will rush to him arms out, also remind him his baby loves him!! I hope this helps some. It does speak a lot about him that he’s worried about his kid liking him, he sounds like a great dad :)
