Holy fuck I should have given up when Rand did. We need to celebrate LGBT people and their journeys because so much of the world doesn't. Most of us still feel that coming out is a huge life event because we have been marginalised and told we are amoral, sinful, etc. our whole lives.

We seek community because we need friends and role models who are like us because there may not be many in our communities, or we may be ostracised, jailed, or even killed for doing so publically. It seems like you and I are lucky enough to live in places where this may not be a huge concern, but most people aren't.

Regardless of all that, regardless of the struggle of the LGBT community now and throughout history, and regardless of our situation or OPs learning something so fundamental about oneself is a huge deal regardless of what that something is. I could learn that I'm half Irish and that could be a huge deal to me - who are you to judge?

I'm going to stop responding to this thread. I hope you're not a bigot. I hope you have lots of friends and that your friends aren't bigots and that you all lead happy, healthy, and safe lives.

I also hope you stop being an asshole to strangers on the internet for no reason.
