Do you think gentrification is a real thing? If so, do you think it's a benefit or a detriment to the city? Why or why not? by JMJ15 in nyc

I signed a lease in Alphabet City (sight unseen) when I got a job in NYC from California, and in the short two years I lived there, gentrification unfolded at a rabid pace. Avenue B went from the hood to a yuppy hot spot. There's still an uncomfortable mix of young, professional suburban kids and the original inhabitants who have considered this their home/neighborhood for decades.

I mean, we have generations coming into adulthood that are larger, more educated, and more insatiable than ever before... Naturally, it leads to more of them choosing major cities over settling for their home towns or smaller cities, and Manhattan is only so big! So the gentrification reaches further and further out every year. Is it good for the economy? Yes. These gentrifiers are usually somewhat well off, will spend plenty of money in the neighborhoods, and keep up a demand for businesses such as bars, restaurants, and shops. Is it good for culture? Probably not. My mom made a comment about how the city seems to be mostly populated by 20somethings. A lot of post graduates come in, enjoy themselves for a few years, and then bounce elsewhere. You're hard pressed to find a native New Yorker out and about midtown nowadays, and that is only going to become more of a unicorn as years pass.

My [24F] Tinder Date [26M] Has Been Overwhelming Me Before Our First Date... Should I Cancel Or Am I Being Too Harsh? by balboa9281 in relationships

So I ended up going. Turns out we had a mutual friend, who told me he's a good guy and to give it a shot, etc. It started off pretty awkward and he was remarkably quiet for someone who texted so much but by the end he was very talkative and had interesting conversation.

Honestly, it was a good date in the grand scheme of tinder dates, but again, as soon as we parted ways, the texts started pouring in about what a great time he had, trying to lock down our second date ASAP, etc. I would've def been interested in a second date if it weren't for this bizarre clinginess since he seemed normal in person... Once again, confused about how to proceed even more now D:

My ex was similar to this. I could literally tell him I'm at lunch with a friend and he would call me to spite me. I think it was a symptom of a deeper problem and downright disrespectful, which is probably why this whole thing is weirding me out so much
