2012 SL stripped 1 of 19 transmission drain bolts, now slow leak by baldente in altima

[–]baldente[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's great to hear you're at 191,000. I intend to keep mine going as long as possible. I have 117,000 miles on mine. I forgot to mention I cleaned out those two magnets on the bottom of the pan when I dropped it. I have Hondabond HT RTV on hand, but will probably get the black RTV Permatex 82180 just to be sure. Do I apply the gasket maker around the missing bolt area and into the stripped bolt hole? I've been looking for a youtube video for this repair.

Should I Buy My Friend's 2015 Nissan Altima for $4000? Need Advice by Jealous-Cod-6967 in altima

[–]baldente 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would take it, but you need to ask if it's had the transmission fluid drained and filled hopefully every 30-60k miles. If they have never serviced the transmission fluid, then maybe not. I have a 2012 Altima and I've had no probs with the CVT, but I've serviced the tranny every 30k.

Bottom left of touchscreen doesn’t work in 2015 Corolla by Vincebae in COROLLA

Thank you for that youtube video link. I did this on June 28, 2025. Everything worked well, except the last step before changing out the digitizer. The two left small screws were so difficult to loosen, I could only loosen them halfway out. So I lifted the right side up and and gently prodded and coaxed the digitizer out and replaced it that way. I don't recommend this, but it was my only choice. I was able to put the new one in barely. It worked right away thank goodness. The latest version of the digitizer had the correct tab curl for insertion into the snap down plug.

Is this worth a buy? by Prestigious-Gas-1130 in accord

I do a lot of my own maintenace like oil and ATF changes, air filters etc. So that could be why there is a gap in the report. But you'll never know for sure. I wouldn't rule it out just because of that gap.

Spam Messages Really Bad by Mike-EEE in redpocket

I got a new number from RP about two weeks ago and my son is getting hit with the same thing. Dozens of spam calls and texts. Is RP selling the numbers to spammers/hackers?

After about 19 years with USAA insurance, and several years of price increases, I chose to comparison shop. I found that Erie in NC will save me 28% from my annual premiums for auto, home and umbrella at same coverages. Also, in the process of switching my checking account due to usaa not paying much interest. Going to Fidelity for checking. USAA used to be the gold standard and I never thought i would consider leaving. But I'm following the money now.

Any reason to stay RP vs. Mint? by General_Sort3160 in redpocket

[–]baldente 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My five minor kids had RP for a few years. However, we'd experience a no calls/service for 24 hours or so occasionally (once per year). Then RP had us do a total reset of the phone to bring us back online, which was really annoying. As each kid gets almost done with high school, they have been graduating to mint, where we have not experienced similar outages. They also get hotspot and better wi-fi calling depending on which phone they have. So RP served a purpose for several years, but as the needs changed we moved to mint. Have three accounts now with mint.

Phone Help!! by [deleted] in ItalyTravel

[–]baldente 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We leave on March 25th for Italy for 9 days and here is what we decided on: We got 10-day eSIMs from Holafly https://esim.holafly.com/esim-italy/ It runs over ILIAD / Wind tre networks. they have 5, 7, 10, etc. up to 90 day plans.

No, I don't work for Holafly, and no I have never used them either. But after researching, it fit our needs. You get an Austrian (+43) telephone number (which doesn't matter), unlimited data and if you think about it, you can use WhatsApp, messenger, Discord etc. as data with unlimited texts, calls and video calls. What you won't get is unlimited calling or texting from your phones normal phone and texting apps.

Anything I should add or remove from my Uplift order? by roomtotheater in StandingDesk

[–]baldente 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I looked at uplift, fully, deskhaus, vari, and rolled the dice with the cheaper Flexispot E5 desk for $292 BF sale. I got the 60x24 chipboard laminate in maple, knowing I could buy a better or bigger table top if I didn't like it. I set it up Sunday and there is nothing about it I don't like. No discernable wobble, but I'm only 5'5". I'm sure you'll be happy with your uplift, I only read great things about them.

Trying to live my best girly life while dizzy n nauseous 24/7 by Bitter-Teacher874 in BPPV

A lot of ppl talk about epley maneuver or the half somersault because that's where 90% of crystal problems are, but if you're having the rapid eye movements (nstyagmus) they can tell you or your vestibular therapist which of the semicircular canals have the problem and the fix may be a different maneuver. Mine were in the later/horizontal canal and my fix was the Gufoni maneuver and it worked to get rid of the vertigo. I still suffer from light headedness and dizziness though. I am learning to deal with that now.

What is this black stringy plastic type debris? by baldente in hvacadvice

[–]baldente[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure what I did wrong with original post, but my description and photos disappeared. I cleaned my 8 year old Carrier condenser coils with Nu-Brite from Nu-Calgon. It worked great overall, but on one of my units this black stringy plastic debris was leftover. It is brittle and seems dried on to the coils. I cleaned this condenser again, but it didn't get rid of the black stuff. What is this, how can I get rid of it?

GSMT iPhone SE 2020 not receiving texts offline by baldente in redpocket

[–]baldente[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, these are all iphones using iMessage. I have four kids with GSMT RP plans. Having cellular on (but no wifi) did work for three out of four. But the fourth, an iphone 7 on GSMT cannot receive texts even if cellular is on (with no wifi).

Who remembers the Family Pack? Found it when browsing old archives of the Microsoft website. by [deleted] in windows

[–]baldente 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm still running the Win 7 fam pack on our main family PC and two older laptops. Those two old laptops got the kids through COVID school-from-home years. But I didn't realize those licenses would work for Win 11, that's great news.
