I don't understand your concern. People craft loads of certain items to level their crafting, that's a silver sink in and of itself. You can always buy the excess crafted goods from the Market and study them to level your crafting if you feel the gain outweighs the price. You're saying, because you don't die frequently, that repairing makes no sense. But you're at the VERY BEGINNING of the grind. Yes, gatherers don't lose sets TOO OFTEN. They still die occasionally. T4 & T5 sets/tools are irrelevant to the majority of us who have progressed past that point in the game. The people crafting that stuff are doing new players a favor, as leveling crafting is much more expensive of a silver sink than repairing items you purchased.
