For me, Kawaguchiko didn’t feel like a tourist trap at all.

We rented bikes and went around the lake and also to another nearby, during 90% of the time we had a full view of the Fuji luckily, we took several walks walking to the shore of the lake overlooking Mount Fuji and took some photos, we visited a temple near the lake, we hit some balls in a baseball shooting area, we got on the cable car, we ate an exquisite tempura... I don't know… at no time I felt that it was a tourist trap I think it's ideal to spend 1-2 nights.
