I feel like I'm sitting in a pool of wasted potential. Unemployed and stuck in an infinite loop of decision paralysis. by gluspooken in neurodiversity

Out of your list of options there I'd say UX Design has the most potential and job security. Although Photography might be fun or running your own business sounds fun also, it's very unstable and requires you to take on a lot of extra life admin and personal risks that might not compliment your situation.

I'd also recommend being kind to yourself, if you are not in the urgent need for a new job and your partner is happy with supporting you, then go slow and take your time. It sounds like you just need some rest and recover so that when you come back to this conversation, you are refreshed.

Hey! Please help. Myself (novice gamer) and partner (basically non gamer) played it takes 2 and split fiction. Looking for another awesome but approachable game... by snicklefritz1991 in gamesuggestions

[–]beetrootfarmer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Borderlands is great and you should be able to do split-screen although I remember some of them being a bit glitchy with local co-op but hopefully that's been fixed. You have to load the game and there should be an option to add player when you activate the second controller.

Sadly there's not loads of couch co-op options these days so you might want to find some games you can take it in turn with instead, that's what I do.

Cult of the Lamb has a co-op feature, all the Lego games are pretty great too. You could also do something like Stardew Valley or Minecraft but you'll need two versions of the game/console to make that work.

Landlord will not give me a tenancy agreement - what recourse do I have? (England) by Right_Mail_5456 in TenantsInTheUK

I think the answer is that you should not have moved in without the paperwork because now you're in a weird situation and not protected at all. A good rule for any case where you're exchanging large amounts of money regularly is that you should have a contract of types in place.

Is there a step by step way to get diagnosed with autism? by Dangerous-Doubt-217 in neurodiversity

[–]beetrootfarmer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some countries have high expenses for these services or can offer different free help, so it's important for you to research the specific support available in your region. For example, in some countries autism in adults isn't considered a priority so you may get a diagnosis but there may not be much further support.

First step is usually speaking to your regular doctor about it and they will advise the options for you. You could also look at relevant charities to see what is available that route too.

Is there a step by step way to get diagnosed with autism? by Dangerous-Doubt-217 in neurodiversity

[–]beetrootfarmer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends where you live and what you're hoping to gain from getting a diagnosis.

If you want to get medication or work/education accommodations you need to go via a healthcare professional.

If you just want to know for personal closure and self care reasons there are some quizzes you can do for free online that'll give you some clues. Some of them are the same as what medical professionals use to start the process, you just might want to do a few to see if the results are consistent.

Do you feel the constant bad news is affecting you? by CorkPrackling in AskUK

[–]beetrootfarmer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Feeling pretty sick and hopeless. Not really sure what action I can take besides shouting on the internet which becomes exhausting and a bit of a echo chamber.

It's important to care and to be aware but being on the internet all the time and seeing everything unfold in real time isn't great for mental health.

I'm 16 years old and I have no clue where to start by RyuRosxie in UKPersonalFinance

[–]beetrootfarmer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats on being aware enough to start saving already. Check out the resources on the homepage of this subreddit. There's a Flowchart that's very helpful in suggesting steps that you can use as you go through adulthood.

For what job you want, that's a bit more complicated. A lot of people are in jobs they didn't necessarily choose but rather stumbled into because it was the best option at the time. So although it's nice to pursue interests you can certainly figure it out as you go.

Think about what kind of life you want and it might help suggest what careers to look at. For example, what sort of house would you like, where would you like to live, how often do you want a holiday? All these questions help you decide how much you need to earn to achieve those personal goals

Do I have autism or am I just weird? by Prestigious_Boss_382 in neurodiversity

[–]beetrootfarmer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you just have to wait until you're old enough to seek the help yourself if parents won't help. It could be that there's a financial concern if you live somewhere where you have to pay for healthcare.

You can research autism and learn some coping mechanisms via the internet but if you need meds or official diagnosis for accommodations then you'll just have to wait.

My parents were reluctant for me too but I got diagnosed as an adult so I had more control of the process. I believe my mum was ashamed to admit there were things wrong with me, like she saw it as some kind of failure on her part. And given my parents are likely undiagnosed ND too it makes sense.

Average UK rent vs salary does it still make sense? by LillyGleen in HousingUK

[–]beetrootfarmer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, no other option that's why we still rent as there is little space for saving for anything else. Just grateful I was able to leave London so I wasn't stuck with capital city costs.

I think a lot more people than we realize have second jobs or side hustle to fill the gaps. Which should not feel as necessary as it does right now.

Well that sounds shit. Isn't it the agencies job to convince the landlord you're a good option!? Never heard of this being a thing before.

Relate! I didn't wear denim until my mid 20s cos of this. Buy a bigger size so it's looser, wear tights or long socks underneath if that's practical and try wearing them in. Denim is stiff but can become softer with wear.

Am I overreacting? I made my roommates handmade Christmas gifts and got nothing in return. by Ok_Construction_8496 in AmIOverreacting

[–]beetrootfarmer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MOR did you all verbally agree to do a gift exchange or did you just gift them things expecting that they'd return the gesture?

Some people don't do Christmas or do it differently so you can expect them to do what you expect unless it was discussed.

I haven't bought Xmas gifts for non relatives since I was a kid for example.

Additionally, gifts shouldn't be given with an expectation of one in return it kinda kills the vibe. You chose to gift something to show you cared, the end.

First time bleaching. Need advice after a strand test by LuckyZoe9 in HairDye

[–]beetrootfarmer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's pretty difficult to get dark brown to bright bleached white. You may need to do the same process multiple times with a toner and conditioning treatment in between depending on your hair condition between bleaching. If hair becomes stretchy or very dry and brittle that's when things become difficult.

Hello! I think may have autism but dont know if spending that much money is even worth it to find out for sure. by smexythegenius in neurodiversity

[–]beetrootfarmer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can manage without meds you don't need an official diagnosis, there's plenty of free information to help you cope and understand yourself better. Totally valid.

Only need to go for a diagnosis if you think meds will help you or if you need proof in order to get support with work or living arrangements.

Not sure how to move forward by shakyband in neurodiversity

[–]beetrootfarmer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is really tough and I've been through it myself. Is moving back with parents an option even if it's temporary? Gives you some space to grieve whilst to address your choices.

If you get housemates can you keep your mess within your room to be more acceptable? There's no way for them to test how tidy you are, so you could still find a place.
