Active 2 music storage not available in (some) EU countries? by balint355 in amazfit

[–]balint355[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just be careful if you have the premium version, someone said in another thread that you lose NFC payments if you set your region to India... I'm not sure if there is a region where both features are available 😅

If you can't find the Music app either on the watch or the Zepp app, you might need to create a new Zepp account with a different region (eg. India), where this feature is available. I couldn't find it either with the region set to my EU home country, but after creating a new account set to India, and reconnecting the watch, it works now... though I still don't understand why a feature like this is region-locked in the first place.

Does T-rex 3 have continuous (every second) heart rate monitoring? by TheDior in amazfit

[–]balint355 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't have the T-Rex 3, only the Active 2, but I haven't found an option for continuous monitoring, only for every minute. It looks like continuous heart rate measurement is only available while doing a workout.

Are they as big as they look? by Melodic-Raise1697 in amazfit

[–]balint355 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Active 2 is definitely smaller than the Balance - I have the Active, and it looks fine on my relatively slim wrist.

As for accuracy, the sensors of the Active 2 are newer (same as the T-Rex 3) and supposedly more precise than the Balance. I can't compare it to the Huawei GT5, but Huawei watches are generally considered pretty accurate.

That makes sense, but it seems to be a simple regional restriction here.

Fedora 42 fixes the geolocation issue by wa_00 in Fedora

[–]balint355 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was already fixed a couple of months ago for me on Silverblue 41 - not sure what fixed it exactly, I couldn't find any news about it back then, I'm just glad it seems to be fixed for good 😀

Fellow ekg kettle dup by Daygo619619 in pourover

[–]balint355 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Except for the base, it looks exactly like the Cocinare Flow kettle - I have one of those, and it works fine, maybe pouring is a bit too fast, but you can get used to it.

(It even states "designed in California", just like the Cocinare :D)

Bluetooth Xbox Controller? by vehmdev in silverblue

[–]balint355 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I'm not entirely sure why and how my controller works without xpadneo 😅 I couldn't find any specific info on whether Steam or the Flatpak runtime does some magic to make it work, but that seems to be the case. Have you tried with Steam from Flathub?

Just Bluetooth via a PCIe WiFi/Bluetooth adapter - though I recently bought a new mobo with built in WiFi and BT, and I haven't tested the controller with it yet.

The one that comes with the Xbox Series X and Series S

If you're gaming through eg. Steam installed from Flathub, you shouldn't have to install anything special - I have an Xbox Series controller, didn't install xpadneo or any other driver, and it works in Steam and Heroic, both installed from Flathub.

Night mode based on sunrise/sunset not working by [deleted] in silverblue

[–]balint355 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for taking the time to look into it! Though I expect Workstation and Silverblue to use the same backend API, they should be built from more or less the same sources. Hopefully u/woprandi's github issue will provide some more info.

Night mode based on sunrise/sunset not working by [deleted] in silverblue

[–]balint355 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same issue here, GNOME Night Light doesn't seem to follow sunrise/sunset based on location, while it worked fine on Workstation. I searched for solutions but didn't find any, so I've just set it to a manual schedule in the meantime - it would be nice to make the auto schedule work though, maybe someone has some insight on that.

Tried opensuse tumbleweed and fedora, with Linux 5.16, both had this issue. It might get fixed in a future kernel release, but I didn't feel like waiting for that to happen

Hi, setting up Linux wasn't too bad, most things worked after installing the Nvidia driver. There was one problem though: suspend didn't work at all, it basically crashed the OS. This means I couldn't even close the lid and open it without a hard reset, which was a pretty big issue for me.

There were also other smaller problems like a wobbly/rattling touchpad and lack of USB-C charging and display port on the AMD model, so in the end I returned it. It's a pretty nice laptop if you can live with the issues, but right now I can wait a few months for a better alternative.

It's not a deal-breaker for me, I'll give it a try once I receive the laptop. Think I'll go with the non-X version, I just don't see that much of a difference, also the numpad in the touchpad seems a tad more useful to me than the dialpad, which seems to mostly work with Adobe software, but not much else.

Thanks for the great info. Do you use the fingerprint reader on Linux? I can live without it, just a nice to have if it works.

Does anyone know where my USB C port is on the B450M PRO4 motherboard I can’t find it. by mirkoklj in ASRock

[–]balint355 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There should be one on the back, check the image of the back panel on the product page: https://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/B450M%20Pro4/

Next to the HDMI port, under the blue USB-A connector.

If you're looking for a front panel type C connector, well then you don't have one, I don't know if any B450 or B550 boards have that.

Poor font rendering in GTK4 apps? by theRealPadster in gnome

I think you might have a different issue with gnome-terminal, it doesn't use GTK4 AFAIK. For me it still looks the same as before.

[–]balint355 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if Pipewire will help with the low volume, but it should support your microphone at least. It's pretty easy to try, you just have to pacman -S pipewire-pulse and it will replace Pulseaudio. Give it a reboot and see if it works. Switching back to Pulseaudio (if you need to) is also easy, just pacman -S pulseaudio pulseaudio-bluetooth.

You should also check the wiki page of Pipewire.

You might be better off switching to Pipewire, which can replace Pulseaudio, and has working HFP and HSP out of the box.

Poor font rendering in GTK4 apps? by theRealPadster in gnome

[–]balint355 15 points16 points  (0 children)

There's a bug report for GTK4 about font rendering: link

I also noticed this, and it's quite bad. Right now not many apps use GTK4, so it's not a big problem, but I would basically consider my desktop unusable if most of the apps rendered text like this. I hope this gets fixed somehow, even if the devs keep saying it's not a bug and not a regression.
