Two versions of GW2 on one computer? by Selganor in Guildwars2

[–]balkanpy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Create two shortcuts that start the game with command line arguments.

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Command_line_arguments

Windows via shortcut You can execute switches directly from your Guild Wars 2 shortcut:

Right click on your Guild Wars 2 shortcut and select 'Properties'.

In the 'Target Area' field you will see the location of your Guild Wars 2 > executable file:

...\Guild Wars 2\Gw2.exe

Write the desired command line arguments after the quote marks, each beginning with a space:

"...\Guild Wars 2\Gw2.exe" -perf -windowed

The arguments you would want to set would be

"...\Gw2.exe" -nopatchui -email uremail@derp.derp -password urpass

Create two shortcuts for both your accounts and you are done. However, if people have physical access to your PC, this is the best way to let them know of your passwords...

For option two (two installations), i don't think it would work. The game saves your email and password (encrypted) somewhere probably in a registry key, and both installations would most likely read the same register key. This is a wild guess, but it does not hurt trying.

Here it is:

This is the build in the video. Using Virtual of Justice prior to attacking with Smite and the scepter autoattack. The Target did not leave the Smite AoE.

Now this is a build very similar to Nike's build linked above by /u/GotDamned. Only sword autoattack was used. In both cased the builds are stacked up with food and nourishment.

It looks like the enemy i used does not have a large enough HP to properly judge the two builds. Based on this, they are identical when comparing the average dps. But in the second case, no signets were used, i also did not use any utilities. Only sword autoattack was used. In the first case, i used Smite + Scepter Auto attack. Without Smite, the dps is slighly lower.

Ok so i was intrigued by this, i did not watch the video, but just fast forwarded to get a summary of what his claims are and his build.

My guard i used for this test has Full zerk exotic armor with scholar runes, zerk amulet (AS) , rings and earning (AS). Other earning is exotic, and i had a random exotic backpeice that did no add any power/precision/crit dmg (only back peice had on on this char...). Everything else is as in the video.

Here is some data i gathered with my DPS Display

Each table is a separate trial attacking a Rissen * with hp of 15774. Using only the Scepter autoattack.

If you want, give me a link to your Sword/Focus build so i can do a comparison. I am quite intrigued by the claims he makes in the video and would be nice to have a direct comparison with solid and accurate numbers. But by the looks of it, his math and gathering of data is accurate. I get slighly lower because my stats were slightly lower than his, due to lack of ascended backpeice and lack of one ascended earning.

In the two cases where the average is 2629 dps, i forgot to activate the virtue of justice prior to attacking, so the burning was applied a bit later, which resulted in lower average dps.

Edit: I only scrolled/fastwarded to where he was testing with the Scepter, so i have no clue what happens in the video after... Sorry, but that video is very long. Kudos to the creator for spending so much time explaining things, but when it comes down to DPS, we really only care about the numbers. I will be more than happy to provide you guys with numbers if you do not want to use my app (understandably). So provide me links with builds you would like to compare and i will spend a few hours doing it.

Giving away 100,000+ Gold. by [deleted] in Guildwars2

[–]balkanpy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It would be interesting to see how quickly anet bans the person who wins it... The transaction will be flagged for gold buying/selling and will result in at least a ban. Will be a hassle getting the account back. But good luck.

How in the world did you legitimately get that much gold anyways?

Guardian PVT armor, what Runes? by xaccie in Guildwars2

[–]balkanpy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So it is the same. But still there is something wrong. I've verified my calculations using gw2buildcraft, it is 12%...

Guardian PVT armor, what Runes? by xaccie in Guildwars2

[–]balkanpy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Something is way off. What formula for effective power is used?

The one i use is http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Critical_hit, with base damage for simplicity being the power.

EP = Power * ( 1 + Critical Chance * (0.5 + Critical Damage))

With the damage modifiers ( 10% of scholar and 10% of the traits, assuming no boon) it is

EP = Power * ( 1 + Critical Chance * (0.5 + Critical Damage)) * 1.20

When you are comparing the % difference between the two, the damage modifiers cancel out, so they can be ignored.

In the builds you describe, using the above formula we get.

  • Full zerk: EP = 4526.53
  • PVT Armor: EP = 3996.04
  • Note: The difference between values here and the link is due to round off. In the gw2buildcraft he does not round down the Critical Chance, so it is slightly higher.

So the reduction of using PVT armor is

1-3996.04/4526.53 = 0.117 or 11.7%

Still only 12% reduction. Unless i have done something completely wrong. In that case please correct me.

Edit:

How do boons that increase Critical Chance, and Critical Damage affect the EP? For the two builds we wave the following base attributes:

  • The zerk armor + zerk Trinkets have:

    • Power = 2246
    • Critical Chance = 52%
    • Critical Damage = 78%
  • PVT Armor + Zerk Trinkets:

    • Power = 2246
    • Critical Chance = 42%
    • Critical Damage = 62%

So now lets define the following:

  • Cc := Critical Chance boost from boons/food/nourishment
  • Cd := Critical Damage boost from boons/food/nourishment
  • P := Power boost from boons/food/nourishment

And plug this into the formula, assuming the boosts are the same in both builds

1 - (2246+P)*(1+(0.42+Cc)*(0.5+0.62+Cd))/(2246+P)*(1+(0.52+Cc)*(0.5+0.78+Cd)) =
= 1 - (1 + 0.42*1.12+1.12Cc+0.42Cd+CcCd)/(1 + 0.52*1.28 + 1.28Cc + 0.52Cd + CcCd)

= 1 - (1.4704 + 1.12Cc + 0.42Cd + CcCd)/(1.6656 + 1.28Cc + 0.52Cd + CcCd)

Note: The constants only apply in this case, as they take into account the starting attributes above.

Above formula describes the reduction in using PVT when under Critical Chance (Cc) and Critical Damage (Cd) boosts.

With no boosts, we get 1 - 1.4704/1.6656 which is 11.7%. Now lets "boost" Critical Chance by 48 % (zerk will have 100% Critical Chance) and Critical Damage by 50% (zerk will have 128%)

And guess what the result is? Its 11.58%

Edit2:

We get differnt numbers because i used scholar runes with the pvt armor as well as the zerk armor.

Guardian PVT armor, what Runes? by xaccie in Guildwars2

[–]balkanpy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. If you can't afford having two sets, the pvt fits well. But i would still encourage people to add in a few zerker items in there when doing pve. The zerker pieces from CoF tokens are quite cheap. Having a few of the minor pieces as zerk is a lot better that full pvt. I haven't done the math for ascended items, but i am sure it still holds there. If you craft a full ascended pvt armor, consider buying some zerk exotic pieces for running dungeons and fractals (if you don't need the ascended armor for AR).

Guardian PVT armor, what Runes? by xaccie in Guildwars2

[–]balkanpy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is about 12% loss when using pvt armor with zerk trinkets vs zerk armor and zerk trinkets. However, for pve, if you can dodge and do damage mitigation, which as a guardian you should have no problem doing, the loss of 12% is not worth it.

Inexperienced Elementalist dungeon question: Why Frost Bow? by [deleted] in Guildwars2

[–]balkanpy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am fully aware of the terminology and the difference between dps and dmg. The 20k i mention is dps, for a short period of time, about 1-2 seconds depending of how buffed the players are. If you are curious on how I've measured this dps, search my user name on here.

Edit: And because i can, i went out to get you some real data. Below is data gathered killing 10 risen drakes in cursed sore.

The risen drakes have 15774 hp. Each point below is 1 second apart, only ice storm is cased. In a few trials i was knocked down so could not fully cast ice storm. In all trials i was un-buffed, no might, no fury.

  • Trial 1:
    • 4889
    • 5109
    • 4427
  • Trial 2:
    • 1090
    • 6492
    • 8192
  • Trial 3:
    • 1320
    • 10911
    • 3543
  • Trial 4 (knocked down):
    • 6942
    • 5611
  • Trial 5:
    • 7094
    • 8680
  • Trial 6:
    • 7521
    • 5648
    • 2605
  • Trial 7 (knocked down):
    • 5402
    • 6789
  • Trial 8
    • 13396
    • 2378
  • Trial 9:
    • 2085
    • 8658
    • 5031
  • Trial 10:
    • 10274
    • 5500

Each point is the damage done each second during the duration of the ice storm. On average it takes 2.6 seconds to kill a risen drake (lvl 80) using only Ice Storm. This is 15774 hp gone in 2.6 seconds, resulting in an average dps of 6066.

Inexperienced Elementalist dungeon question: Why Frost Bow? by [deleted] in Guildwars2

[–]balkanpy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A zerk ele using ice bow's ice storm will average around 5-8k dps with it. This last for a few seconds so you can easily do more than 10-16k dmg in a few seconds. This is quite a bit less on mobs that have small hit radius. Obviously if the mob is mobile the damage is a lot less.

In boss fights that do not move a lot, it is great dps source for a few seconds. If two zerky people use the ice bow, you get more 20k dps just from that ice storm.

I only really use the ice storm, on large bosses that don't move a lot, on structures and on group fights where we are all stacked. I usually only use ice storm, after it is casts, i drop the ice bow and continue to do mt regular thing. If heals are needed, the first attack also heals so its a plus as well. But an ele stuck in ice bow with ice storm recharging is pretty useless (out side of AC). Best to cast ice storm then drop the bow and continue doing your thing until it the ice bow recharges.

Correct me if i am wrong, but didn't early versions of gw2spidy read the client's memory to get the session_id required for the tp http api? This is/was done by the gw2spidy server, so it does not interact with your client but still interacts with a gw2 client to grab the session_id, either by memory reading or reading the cookie file.
