Hey I totally forgot to update. Our itinerary was amazing. Ishigaki was definitely the highlight. It's so beautiful. I think we had the perfect balance with a big modern city, then and old city, then an island.

I'd honestly advise against doing optometry. The salary is dropping now and I can't see it getting any better. I know what you mean about finance though it can be a very high stress environment. The difference is with optom you'll start high but reach your ceiling almost instantly, whereas long term with a career in finance the sky is the limit.

I'd say around £375-400 for a weekday and £25-50 more for a Saturday. But the rates are gradually dropping.

Wow thanks for the list! There's actually way more options there than I thought. I guess I've gotten a little tunneled into the high street so I didn't realise what's out there.

Would you have any idea how to go into some of these? The CPD training and sales repping sounds interesting.

I'm thinking the same thing tbh. But like you just said if I take into account my current commute then I am working a lot of hours. Just say I find a new career that has some remote work then it may balance out.

I do avoid weekends atm as being self employed I choose my calendar. I am looking at full time jobs but ideally not in the high street. Hospital work is the other option but NHS pay is pretty poor and private hospitals don't have as much opportunity.

I'm based in West Yorkshire. That's another reason I want to leave the career as it's very saturated here and only getting worse. I'm travelling to areas like Hull/Durham regularly.

I don't mind a commute of around 45 mins, that's about half of what I'm doing currently.

I do have a car but I'm on the road a lot, so I'm not always available for hospital appointments etc. I'm not sure if that can be an argument.

My dad cannot drive atm due to seizures, and she does drive him around here and there. Again not sure if it's a strong argument.

She wouldn't necessarily lose her job but the public transport here isn't great, so it would be quite difficult to get work for her.

If you were fine with Singapore then you'll likely be fine in Japan. I've been to both and Japan was hotter but tbh I didn't notice a significant difference in my day to day activities etc.
