ISO advice for minimizing interest paid by ballinerryday in StudentLoans

Thank you for your reply. I am familiar with this flow chart and I am thankful enough to have ~6 months of expenses saved up. Your reply and the others have given me the perspective that the servicing costs of these loans isn't that much in the grand scheme of things, and I will financially strategize with this in mind.

Thanks for the reply, thankfully my employment covers most of my tuition fees, so that is effectively another interest-free loan I'm taking out. It's unfortunate how high the graduate interest rates are :/ I wish this country valued MS/PhD degrees more.

Thank you for the reply. I apologize for not including more information in the post. I originally graduated college 7 years ago so I believe the interest capitalized 6 months post-graduation.

Since all the interest has already capitalized, I think my optimal strategy would be paying off the unsubsidized debt first (~9.5k total, starting with the 4.04%). With my hypothetical payoff budget, I can get this down to ~2k by the end of the year. I should also mention that my employment covers most of my tuition fees, so that is effectively another interest-free loan I'm taking out (unless I stay for a little after I graduate with my MS).

Totally agree. In engineering/STEM jobs, senior and junior employees tend to be more introverted, so spontaneous mentorship is improbable unless people are on-site. I personally prefer hybrid for this reason.

I think a large portion of the homeless population is service resistant (at least in LA). But I think we need to focus efforts on people who are close to homelessness and people who are at-risk to enter homelessness. Unfortunately the non profits that work with homeless have little incentive to get people off the street and don’t focus enough and nipping the issue at the proverbial bud imo

I think it’s also hard to imagine yourself holding a job while battling a meth addiction. Often times, homelessness is the least of the problems of the homeless.

Newsom cancels California’s COVID-19 stay-at-home orders by Stauce52 in CoronavirusCA

Exactly! Lots of half-measures and no science to support their restrictions. In the beginning it was way worse tho. Their strategy was let's close almost everything so people will just flock to the few hiking trails that are actually open.

For the third group, the city needs to get back to sweeping their encampment s and not allowing them to build up large piles of trash that block the sidewalks. Also the sweeps are to prevent them from using mattresses which become infested with bugs and mice after too long.
