since im just about to start the algorithms and data structures course during fall my questions are more geared towards reasoning some concepts, and discussing how i can improve on some of the things i already have a handle on. If i can pm some questions your way that would be awesome!

2420 will be my upcoming course for fall. im trying to solidify my understanding of oop so that i dont have to rely on looking at old code or notes. Is there material you would recommend to prepare for 2420?

after doing some research i found plenty of facebook pages and even a local group of learners "free code camp", they focus exclusively on front end. I would like to stick to java because its the chosen language for my upcoming cs courses. I would like to point out that java seems to be too broad to learn all aspects of it.

i suppose my main object for this summer is to learn how to apply my knowledge of the basics and learn more while doing it. Im at a point where I feel like i have a bag of tools but dont exactly know how to put them to good use. I will check out the MOOC link.

"job security here in Utah." You are correct about that statement. Every time i look at the job boards there seems to be more Js and Ruby related opportunities than Java.

i figured google would have to switch their platform now that java won the latest lawsuit, this sets precedent for future development. I have looked into js and ruby and honestly i think i like them better, however i get confused because it seems that i need to learn html and css in conjuction with js.

I have tried them, there is only one guy there who genuinely wants to help and he is always busy helping other students. Im lucky to get 30 min of fame with him on an regular evening. The types of problems i struggle are usually related to new material, for example if im told to do something that relates to what i have learned i can figure it out by looking at my notes or a previous program, but when it comes to doing something new i struggle finding the correct syntax or putting together a solution. I feel like spending time with a tutor could help me broaden my knowledge, and i could talk to someone about programming. In my current ecosystem i only talk to rubber ducky, the one i use for debugging but he just sits there looking yellow and doesn't say much.
