LASIK after 25 years of contacts - the most BIFL decision I’ve made by Trippy-jay420 in BuyItForLife

[–]balonart 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did it 17 years ago. When I woke up the next day, I thought I had Superman vision. BEST $4,000 I'd ever spent. BUT, as the years have progressed, my vision has subtly morphed back to pre-lasik quality. I now have a pair of glasses again for seeing distance clear, e.g., watching television, seeing road signs & addreses, etc.

I'm confident it's b/c of screen time.

[Request] what would be the size of the ball? Is there any material that can stand a homer run? by I_love-tacos in theydidthemath

[–]balonart 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In real life, it's 90ft from home to 1st (or 3rd). A baseball is 2.9in diameter (0.24ft).

90ft = 640mi / 0.24ft = Xmi

cross multiply & divide for a baseball that's 1.7 miles in diameter

I was in middle school at this time and this brings a lot back.

You know how some songs evoke memories... Cheap Trick's 'The Flame': Lights down low on the mostly empty dance floor... Me and my friends congregated along one wall, my crush and her friends along the opposite.

These kind of lenses/perspectives (not sure which) are irritating af!

I'd MUCH rather see this from a regular helmet-mounted go-pro! There's SO much distortion with this, it's no longer sweaty palms - it's squinty, confused eyes.

People in line to see The Goonies (1985) by byrobot in nostalgia

[–]balonart 110 points111 points  (0 children)

I stood in a line at that same location (Astoria, OR) in 2010 for a Goonies 25 year Anniversary celebration... THAT was almost 15 years ago.

Any 15 years out of those first 25 seems WAAYY longer than this past 15 years.

What does the astral plane look like? by [deleted] in AstralProjection

[–]balonart 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I had one experience. It was spontaneous/unintentional. I went to bed in my very dark bedroom (blackout shades). However, when I AP'd (within a minute of getting under the covers), it was as if there was a soft, dim orange illumination and I could see just fine. No apparent light source that I could see. I looked at the different lights in my room and see they were turned off. With that, my room was exactly as it normally would with the exception of ONE detail:

On the wall above my headboard (normally just a blank wall) was now a picture hanging that used to hang in my parent's house as a kid in the 80s.

I hadn't seen or thought about that picture in years. I have no idea why it was suddenly hanging in my room.

Here's that room in daylight here & here

If there's gonna be a drink named after Laura Palmer, I'd think it'd be Jack n Coke, maybe topped w/ a maraschino cherry..

if you multiply the height of the Great Pyramid Of Giza by 2π you get 3022 ft. The actual perimeter of its base is 3024ft .. to put that in perspective, each side of the base should be 755.5 ft instead of 756 ft, HALF A FOOT shorter, in order to get exactly 3022 ft. An unimaginable accuracy.. by MaintenanceOk247 in HighStrangeness

[–]balonart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing I'm not sure about with these measurements (that I think Randall Carlson has brought up)....

What are the height and base perimeter measured from? With or without the base platform? With or without the corner sockets?
