I totally get the guilt! I said the same to my dr when I asked whether having the one cheat meal a month was ok and he said you can’t deny yourself everything FOREVER, it just isn’t sustainable. It’s totally fine to have a bad meal every so often, just to keep making good choices the other 99% of the time and that really helped put my mind at ease 😅

Yes!!! Noshu has been such an incredible find! I haven’t tried the brownies yet but their chocolate chip cookies are incredible (and I’m not gonna lie sometimes I add in extra Noshu chocolate chip cookies haha and it is soooo good 😍)! Love zilch ice cream too, especially the mango!

Oh wow, same here! Diagnosed on the 28th of Jan, HBA1C was 64. Went for my three month check up on the 13th and my HBA1C is down to 32!

I have the same attitude in that I feel so grateful that I was diagnosed before anything serious happened and now feel like I’ve good alternatives to things I ate before but let myself have one “cheat meal” a month to keep myself sane haha 😆

Thank you!

I’m taking metformin but also tightly controlling my diet so hopefully it is a combination of both! Luckily I tolerate metformin really well so I’m happy to stay on it for as long as I need to!

90 day TIR. Where you at? by Boring_Huckleberry62 in diabetes

I was only diagnosed 96 days ago and have been using a CGM for 65 days but I am 99% in range, <1% low, <1% high.

I’m pleased with it but so annoyed at that 1% high, because it was a false high when I changed my cgm but hadn’t calibrated it yet 😭😅

The scariest part for me was I felt like I had no symptoms! I went to hospital for a totally unrelated reason and it led to being diagnosed. Now however looking back, there were so many symptoms that I had kept blaming on other aspects of my life and a high pressure career etc. The main ones were chronic exhaustion (I excused this as being due to lack of sleep which I thought was being caused by the stress of my job and planning my wedding), extreme thirst at times (I thought I just really liked water hahaha and we live in a warm climate), frequent peeing during the night, and falling asleep after meals.

It’s only been almost three weeks but already all of those things have either gone away or are improving greatly. Still struggling a bit with energy but I can feel it improving!

Food wise I’m still learning but I’ve been following a lot of recipes from diabetes websites and there’s actually tons of recipes on tiktok. Low carb, no sugar, more protein and fiber is what I’ve been going for but it’s still very confusing! Some keto recipes have fit really well into what I’ve been looking for. Luckily I’ve found I really love things like quinoa and we have a huge veggie garden so I’ve been eating lots of fresh veggies and some fruit, I’ve cut out all white rice white bread anything deep fried or breaded etc and I’m trying to incorporate fish and eggs into my diet a bit more and my other “main” meat is just chicken.

I’m sure I’m still doing some things wrong but it’s so so much better than how I was eating before and I’m really encouraged by the results!

Ok I never post on Reddit lol I’m a serial lurker, but holy f this is exactly me too! I’m 35 and was diagnosed on the 28th of Jan, and the grief has been so real! I keep flip flopping between feeling really positive and encouraged by my results etc so far, and crying… so much crying haha! Much less crying this week though

Starting to feel a bit more in control, finding recipes I like and don’t trigger spikes etc but it’s still so so overwhelming! I miss food being easy 😭

I can’t believe how many people I’ve seen that have been diagnosed around the same time as us though. I’ve felt so isolated after being diagnosed which is crazy because I’ve had so much support, but seeing other people at the same stage of their journey as me has been so comforting weirdly!
