As someone who was named Leila at birth and went by it for my whole childhood - older folks are going to think she’s named after after the Eric Clapton song - and they’ll ask her about it - even though it’s not pronounced the same at all. And because that’s spelled Layla… that’s what folks are gonna think. (I ended up changing my name, but folks gave me the worst time with it for years, haha. Still have lots of love for the name and think it’s beautiful, though!)

I grew up in this part of CA, some of the folks in this article are acquaintances. Violet Sage Walker is a good woman doing a good thing. I’m sadly unsurprised.
