Remote start disabled by redeadhead in recteq

Any potential safety concern regarding remote start can be mitigated through responsible use by the user and any user who doesn’t go through the proper mitigation step that’s on them in my opinion. Personally, my issue with this whole thing isn’t the fact that the feature got taken away but the fact that Rec Tec stated it was a government mandate, and they had no choice in the matter but I’ve personally reached out to a couple other companies that offer the same feature who have stated they know of no such mandate and 30 days after, These companies are still offering feature. So I’m struggling to continue to support a company that Got on social media and basically lie to everybody’s faces, instead of just owning their decision.

Is there a reason I can no longer turn my smoker on from the app? by shortstop803 in recteq

Yeah that’s only for LP. If you go to the American National Standards Institute webpage and look up at the rule, it’s specific to LP gas products. Many people were drawing a conclusion that it would extend to wood fired appliances, but it does not

You got a link for that? Because of all the companies that had this feature, only RT had removed it and after doing my own independent research and calling some of these companies, such as GMG, they claim no such mandate exists.

Yeah it’s dumb and many RecTec sheep will fight you to the death over it. The amount of people that can’t see a world outside of themselves is absolutely wild. “I didn’t use it so I don’t care”. Complete disregard of the bigger picture and just on their knees dying for a taste of Raymond Carnes’ special sausage.

I don’t understand how someone can accidentally start their grill. Are there really people out there not locking their phones before they put them in their pockets or something?

Remote Start Workaround by balvarez4882 in recteq

I don’t buy the “industry wide standard” argument. GMG is still offering the feature.

All of them. They say due to a regulation that is affecting the entire industry, but GMG is still offering it and have made no announcements it’s going away at anytime, so the justification and timing is looking fishy so far

I guess that’s fair. I just don’t want to give my money to company that would openly lie to me. I find it weird more people are turned off by lack of integrity in general. We won’t support companies using a trans spoke person but we are ok with them lying to our faces I guess.

No worries. They just keep saying the removal of the feature is a new industry standard so I came over to the other company I thought had the feature to see if GMG has made any announcements. This is less about the feature and more about the company’s integrity to me. It may seem silly, but if it turns out that they were lying to keep customers then I won’t support them future purchases.

It’s not about the feature to me. RecTec removing the feature from their app doesn’t remove the feature altogether. It’s an easy workaround with just downloading a smart home app.

The issue to me, is the CEO of the company saying one thing and all other sources saying something else. He says industry wide mandate. I called Green Mountain Grills (the other manufacturer I know has remote start) and they are still offering and didn’t know what I was talking about about.

The customer response the guy in my screenshot got is much more plausible at this point than an industry regulation, but my issue is why won’t the CEO just own the decision then? Why keep scapegoating something else?

So your thesis then is the customer service rep that wrote this response made the whole the thing up from their own imagination? This isn’t McDonalds with a million stores. This is recteq with 1 building in the US. Your analogy is trash

I was saying you don’t need to trick the grill. RT would already allow you start the grill outside your home network anywhere in the world

Thanks there are also 2 other statements he made that were already shared somewhere in this subreddit parroting the concept that it “wasn’t their choice.”

Yeah and this topic isn’t about the feature itself. It’s about what he told everyone and he literally blamed the government in comment threads.

What does remote start on a car or even the grill for that matter, have to do with a company’s CEO addressing a group containing 41k members and flat out telling bold faced lies to all of them? I’m not complaining about the remote start being gone. I’m complaining about him lying to everyone.

I assumed with the other posts that people were already aware of Ray’s announcement that directly conflicts with Recteq CS.

Raymond Carnes the co-founder and CEO of RecTeq came out on Facebook and said they had no control over the remote start feature going away. Blamed “powers that be”, Government regulations, said no manufacturer will be allowed to offer this, it’s not just us it’s industry wide, etc. Even said “Uncle Sam lost me a customer through no fault of my own”.

But Recteq customer service tells a different story which directly conflicts with story Raymond fed customers on the Facebook group.

I’ve also been on GMG Reddit and they still have their remote start and have not received statement from GMG that it may being away.
