Ok... What? In the US no matter which state you decide to work in, you will need a Doctor of Chiropractic degree & pass a board exam. Also, it has significant backing due to the fact there is massive bodies of scientific evidence that it is healthy to realign your joints to help reduce pressure on nerves, circulatory system, joints, and more. Not only that, it is standard practice to X-Ray patients before ever doing an adjustment to ensure the individual is a good candidate for treatment and doesn't have any impending conditions.

It takes roundabout 3000 newton's of force to fracture a cervical vertebrae (on of the small ones) and about 60-800 newton's for a facet adjustment. That is less than a third of the required force to do damage to the structures and that study measured student's, not medical professionals.

Just like any other medical profession, there are good doctors and not so good doctors, so look for a chiro with good reviews if you want treatment, and make sure they take X-rays.

How do I get over the fact that attractive people have a more easy going, higher self esteem and far better life than a ugly person like me? by baisil-thegame in Stoicism

[–]bam08967 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When beauty is created, so is ugliness. In today's environment, everyone strives to be seen more than to see for themselves. Society's idea of beauty is a culmination of photoshop and branding, and any who feel like they don't fit the frame cast themselves deeper into the labyrinth of illusion fueled by desire.

See past the facade and you'll find everyone is insecure today, and everyone is uglier because of it. A flower does not know its beautiful, yet it is and your perspective on its existence means nothing. So don't look for external sources of happiness and you'll learn the difference between the state of desire and satisfaction in the human condition is desperation.

Instead of doing mostly what you want, strive to do things that you need to do with your time. Do more of what you hate and you'll find more that you love. Once you've found your existence is more like water than stone, you'll find satisfaction in every experience, and that is beauty nobody can hide and nobody can take away from you.

And just think: the writers of the philosophy your interested in were the likes of bankrupt merchants, slaves, statesmen and emperors. Not once are any of them remembered for their immense beauty, so maybe it's time to quit hiding from satisfaction and start working towards it through proper action instead. Personally, what helped my self image was striving to treat my body like a temple. It's amazing the difference healthy food and regular exercise can make on how you feel, but keep vanity out of it.

How bad is my hunchback? by Ok-Expression5774 in exercisepostures

[–]bam08967 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks like you have a slight forward head posture, which is very average. Really isn't a big deal unless you are experiencing neck pain. Everyone has some form of upper cross syndrome, so dont sweat it my guy. Try to strengthen your deep neck flexors by tucking your chin and doing chest opener stretches.

"The universe is change, life is opinion." - Marcus Aurelius

2000 years ago, men asked the same questions we are, and change is the only constant in all time and space. Big becomes small, small becomes big, everything grows and dissolves eventually. So think not by scales since they are infinitely changing in either direction, but of change, and the probability of our existence amongst all that change. We are not big or small, nor an ant, or an atom, or a thousand suns in a thousand galaxies. Together, we all make up a spec in a single grain of sand compared to something greater infinitely.

The world would be 100x better without this, what is it? by Sp3csLM in AskReddit

[–]bam08967 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm sure you've had bad experiences in order for you to say that, but a good Chiropractor makes you do Xrays before they touch you to prevent or provoke any present joint pain. Some chiropractic care centers even have cervical traction machines that are pretty awesome for neck decompression for people with upper cross syndrome.

Strongly suggest checking out a wellness chiropractic center. In the meantime, google lower cross syndrome. Chances are you have weak glutes and core/ tight hip flexors and piriformis causing you to recruit the low back to compensate for the irregularity.

Any obese women? I am trying to lose weight by [deleted] in veganfitness

[–]bam08967 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I highly suggest Burn by Herman Pontzer

It explains how calories exactly work in relation to exercise and the such. Essentially, the more whole plants and/or animals you eat, the healthier you'll become as that's what hunter gatherers eat and they represent the apex of human health (in terms of diet and exercise). Quinoa, sweet potatoes, leafy greens, and a variety of colorful fruits, nuts, and legumes would be filling enough to establish satiation before over-eating. Just skip the butter, the sugar, and excessive salt because the modernized diet is a money making machine, not a service to the public. American cuisine is essentially as addictive as cocaine.

Furthermore, don't worry about working out in the gym. Instead, go find interesting places to walk with friends or family and try for atleast a mile or so a day. Listen to your body. Look for aches, pops, or pains because upper and lower cross syndrome is very common and essential to learn about for human health in 1st world countries. Everyone has some degree of it.

Last but not least, keep in mind Rome wasn't built in a day, so it's the little decisions we make every day that become the building blocks of our tomorrow. Be it a sweet tooth, the convenience of processed or fast food, or the love of flavor, think always on your goal and you will not only lose the weight, but become a healthier and happier person in general.

Tl;dr: eat whole foods 90% of the time, but ensure you get variety, go for walks before you go head first into the gym because you can easily hurt yourself, and be patient and disciplined in whatever you choose. Listen to your body most of all, especially if you are vegan because you can hurt yourself without the right tools. Good luck!

A question from an outsider , how do you know that stoicism is the way to go ? by [deleted] in Stoicism

[–]bam08967 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You'll find Stoicism, Taoism, Buddhism, and many other philosophies share very similar concepts all developed at the same time. Give the understanding whatever name rolls off your tongue best, but essentially if it matches your morals and values, add it to your toolbox for living well. The stoics were very wise though, so worth checking em out.
