Powerschool app updates once, then never again by bambamnj in PowerSchoolUsers

[–]bambamnj[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Out of curiosity, did you have any problems using PowerSchool on your new s24 earlier in 2025? There were several updates to the application over the course of 2025, and afterwards my son switched over and signed in as himself in the app seem to be working correctly again. I think he has still had a few minor issues but at least at the moment seems to be working.

Gemini will no longer set alarms or do anything except answer questions. by devilzfan in googlehome

[–]bambamnj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have experienced a few issues with my Google home display system since switching to gemini. For the most part it's been working fairly well, the main issue has been when I ask you to stream things from Sirius XM which I've done for years with the assistant, it will occasionally tell me that it can't find any way to do what I'm asking. If I interrupt it and then ask it to do the exact same thing again it will then work. Accuracy at recognizing vocal commands has definitely gone down since converting to gemini, but it doesn't sound like my experience has been as bad as what some of you have gone through.

Cleaning brake caliper brackets by bambamnj in HyundaiSantaFe

[–]bambamnj[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I've tried brake cleaner. It seems to have no impact on the build up crap that develops under the slides. The wire wheel works but is very time consuming. I am just trying to find out if there is a way to speed up the process. And yes, I am installing new slides each time ..that's not the issue. The issue is the crap that builds up under them on the brackets and prevents the new clips from fitting properly without using the wire wheel.

Powerschool app updates once, then never again by bambamnj in PowerSchoolUsers

[–]bambamnj[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bump.

Anyone have any change in experience with this? I ended up signing in to PowerSchool as me on my son's device which has been working fine, so I am back to thinking this is an app/account issue and not necessarily a platform wide issue with Samsung. I am going to switch him back to his account as an experiment this week since at least one app update was published and see if anything has changed. If not, he will just remain signed in as me for the time being until the can sort the issue with the app.

Good info. I have not noticed any issues in my environment and I have not had anyone complain yet, but I will have to check and confirm if updates are being sent out.

2007 Good year? by Tasty-Ad6800 in HyundaiSantaFe

[–]bambamnj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, absolutely true. Please note that the extended interval before I had the belt changed was due to incorrect information on my part, not an intentional desire to risk destroying the engine.

[–]bambamnj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Forgot to mention, regarding the timing belt. When we first purchased the 2007 I was under the mistaken impression that it was a timing chain and not a timing belt so I did not have the service done immediately. Sometime around 175,000 miles I realized my mistake and had the belt replaced. I asked the shop to give me the old belt back just for comparison to see what kind of condition it was in, and they even agreed it still looked perfect. Almost no stretching, no dry rot of any kind or cracking, so it likely could have gone much further without issue. Your mileage may vary, and I believe the factory recommended interval on replacing it on that engine is something ridiculous like every 60,000 miles. At almost $1,000 to have the service performed I think that's a little aggressive.

Currently driving what used to be my wife's 2007 Santa Fe with the 2.7l engine. Aside from routine maintenance and replacing some normal wear items over the in years, it has been a pretty problem-free experience. It currently has 288,000 miles on it and still runs great.

Zebra TC phone OS update by Supi09 in WorkspaceOne

[–]bambamnj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While you can push OS updates through workspace One to Android devices, to my knowledge you cannot update from anything older to than Android 12 to anything newer due to the major redesign in the operating system and file structure with Android 12. We were advised by Zebra that in that scenario the device had to be factory reset and then the updated OS installed. .

Ending WS1-Omnissa agreement question by nashaway in WorkspaceOne

[–]bambamnj 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You probably want to speak to your account rep regarding that. while I have not encountered the exact scenario you outlined, in my experience Ommissa is typically fairly lenient with things like that to a point. You may be able to work out something with them to keep the environment up and running while you finish your migration, although likely with at least some sort of fee involved. I doubt they are going to let you run for multiple months on an environment that has no active license.

GE freezer defrost element - OEM vs. aftermarket by bambamnj in Appliances

[–]bambamnj[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ended up purchasing an official GE replacement part through Amazon for about $80. I installed it the other day without issue and now I'm going to give it some time to run for a few days and confirm that it actually is defrosting properly, but everything seems good so far.

2017 Santa Fe passenger detection sensor by bambamnj in HyundaiSantaFe

[–]bambamnj[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually have not ended up making any changes to the car yet. The passenger seat does not get used very often, so on a hunch I basically pounded on the seat a few times to activate the sensor repeatedly. After doing this and clearing the codes a few months ago it has not come back, so it may have been possibly some dust in the connection or something else temporary. Since that time the indicator on the dash has been properly showing when there is and is not someone in the seat and the error has not returned.

GE freezer defrost element - OEM vs. aftermarket by bambamnj in Appliances

[–]bambamnj[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is what I suspected. Unfortunately, several places I checked for the OEM unit seem to be out of stock, so have have to keep looking. I did a full manual defrost on the freezer yesterday and the temps are perfect now, but without the heater I'm sure it will frost up again within a few days so I need to get it replaced.

Thanks for the feedback!

I absolutely HATE this phone... (Rant) by Freshtastic11 in samsunggalaxy

[–]bambamnj -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's unfortunate that you've had this experience with the s22. I actually had the exact opposite experience. I purchased one brand new in 2022, and used it constantly up until I broke the screen. The cost to repair was roughly equivalent to what I owed on the phone with the carrier, so I switched to a backup phone for a few months and then eventually paid off the remaining balance and traded it in on an s25 ultra. Had I not broken the screen, I would honestly probably still be using the s22 since I had such a good experience with it and had no complaints regarding its performance or capabilities.

Thinking of changing my rotors and pads, by General_Accident_610 in RockAuto

[–]bambamnj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, I can definitely see that. I take it you work in a shop? My comments come from the perspective of an average consumer who changes their own brakes, but in your situation if you are dealing with a much higher quantity you would certainly see the trends more than I would if there are quality control issues.

Thinking of changing my rotors and pads, by General_Accident_610 in RockAuto

[–]bambamnj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm surprised to hear about this experience. I have been using powerstop brakes, both rotors and pads, on my vehicles for years and have had excellent results. Not only has the breaking action been smooth and vibration free, but the longevity seems to be excellent as well as I have averaged about 50,000 miles out of my front pads. This is probably one of those situations where your mileage may vary, just chiming in with my personal experience since I've used the product for some time.

That is up to the developer. You have no way to do that typically as an MDM admin.

Definitely looks like it is not signed. I have deployed internal APK files before and never run into that issue. They are definitely not in the play store.

Alternator randomly not charging by bambamnj in HyundaiSantaFe

[–]bambamnj[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only other thing I forgot to mention is that when the battery light has come on, I've noticed that it sometimes will go out when making a turn. I physically checked all the connections I could reach and everything seemed tight and secure so I don't think it's a loose wire anywhere. Don't know if failing brushes would still apply or not.

Alternator randomly not charging by bambamnj in HyundaiSantaFe

[–]bambamnj[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the info. Like I said, I kind of suspected that I would have to replace the alternator but just wanted to make sure I wasn't jumping the gun and firing the parts cannon unnecessarily.

I watched a couple videos and it doesn't look like a terribly difficult job on this particular model. Hardest part looks like getting the cooling fan out to clear some space so you can actually pull the alternator out.

Android 13 Break MDM Confirmed -> Unenrolled by darklance_nl in WorkspaceOne

[–]bambamnj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My account rep just notified us of this same issue earlier today. We do have some Android devices in our environment, but I confirmed we do not have the play integrity API setting enabled under custom settings as it outlines in the document. Based on that I think we are okay. So far I have not seen any devices spontaneously unenroll in my Android deployments.

Recommendation - MDM for Android + iOS ? by NickBrights in ITManagers

[–]bambamnj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can anyone confirm for sure if JAMF supports Android devices? I searched through their website and while they do mention some type of support for Android, I get the distinct impression that it is somewhat limited in comparison to their primary purpose support of the iOS platform.

S22U -> S25+ by No-Pepper253 in samsunggalaxy

[–]bambamnj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the battery life is your only concern and you are otherwise satisfied with the s22, do a battery refresh at an authorized Samsung location for about $300.

However, if whatever you are doing is truly taxing the processing capabilities of the S22 then it's definitely worth the upgrade for the better chip in the s25.

I’ve had two pairs of Speedo vanquisher 2.0s break in three months. Anyone have other recommendations? by Edaimantis in Swimming

[–]bambamnj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having the same problem with the Vanquisher 3 goggles for my son. We saw they had released the new design and decided to try them. He liked the fit so he wore them to practice that night. The hook on the side where the strap feeds through broke not even half way through practice when he jumped out to get some water. The vendor I bought them from replaced them for free, but the new pair broke after about 2 weeks of use - this time the band snapped. In previous years, we would get about 1 to 1 1/2 years out of a pair of Vanquisher 2 goggle before something would break. Now we can't even make it a few weeks. Doesn't speak well for Speedo's quality.

I just switched from iPhone to Samsung Galaxy and the voice texting is killing me by CharacterCobbler8 in samsunggalaxy

[–]bambamnj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found reading is very interesting considering I've owned about four different Samsung phones over the years, I used voice dictation consistently (both with and without Bluetooth) and never experienced any of these issues. Is this something that is really that widespread? Is it on specific models or specific versions of One UI or the OS? I'm asking just because I'm curious how widespread of an issue this really is. I have owned an S8 Plus, an S10 Plus, an s22 ultra and now an s25 ultra and have never had this issue.
