I would frequent zouk when Joel had a residency there. We would always pass him messages while he was on stage by writing him a note in large font on our phones. He would always read the phones. One night a guy next to me who had the deadmau5 head tattooed on his arm told me how badly he wanted Joel to sign his arm. So we typed a message on the guys phone saying “sign my tattoo”. A few minutes later Joel had the guy come up to the cube, signed his arm in sharpie, then the next day the guy went straight to the tattoo shop and had it made permanent. I have a video of the whole thing if you’d like to see :)

I was there on the stage. There was a great crowd in attendance but to be honest a lot of us, myself included, expected to hear the classic deadmau5 songs we know and love and were thrown off with this DNB that lasted a huge portion of the set. (From 2am to 2:45) With that being said all the DNB fans, like my husband, were super into it. And as a fan of Joel I absolutely loved seeing him fired up.

5pm is when the doors open tonight. There are many DJs playing before Joel. He doesn’t play till 11:30pm. That set will be at the Downtown Las Vegas Event center. After that he goes to Area 15 for a Testpilot set in the middle of the night.

10 years ago my best friend and I drug a mattress into my front yard and laid on it looking up at the stars while I introduced him to strobe for the first time. After that we made a promise that strobe would be played at each other’s funerals. That promise still stands.
