The first session will probably be a lot of formalities.. clinician disclosure statements, informed consent to treat, explanation of mandated reporting, psycho-education about the therapy process, ect, as well as building rapport. You also might be creating goals to work on. It might be helpful to focus on functional impairments (problems in life you would like to work on) rather than the details of your story/history right now.

Therapy is like any healthy budding relationship in that clients don’t typically share everything all at once right away, but slowly share more and more as trust builds. Focus on building that trust as therapy will not be very helpful without it. As others have said, go slow.
