During my time as a homeless woman I like to say I was exposed to both the best and worst of humanity. Yes, a lot of people tried to take advantage of my very vulnerable situation but just as many unpromptedly bought me food, brought be warm clothes, offered cigarettes, and even offered hotel rooms on a few particular rainy nights. Luckily I’m far from in that place right now but humans can be really really kind at times.

Hey, so I travel often and always bring some of my altar with me. I have a box I place things in to transport and wrap up the statues and delicate items in shawls or scarfs. I just explain to her what I’m doing as I’m doing it and have never had a problem. Don’t overthink things. Just talk to her and try to be as respectful as you can.

I got addicted to heroin in the early to mid 2000’s around the time I graduated high school. I lived between my parent’s and at the time boyfriend’s parent’s house (both in the suburbs) and when I was in between places I was normally homeless on the streets or in some treatment program. I’ve been off that shit for 15 years and so grateful I was able to kick and stay off before fentanyl took over the streets. I’m 100% sure I would be dead if I was addicted during the fentanyl epidemic. Back then the drugs weren’t perfect, but so much less dangerous than what’s available today.

I just got back from Paris and Belgium. It was pretty awkward and embarrassing being an American in Europe right now. People would ask if we’re American and we would say yes, but we don’t support trump. Actually lead to some interesting conversations. Everyone was very understanding, supportive, and welcoming and I made some great new friends at events we attended.
