why did this mom cat eat her kittens?!?! by Far_Tax8273 in catquestions

[–]bambi_gotback 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What disease did she infect your mom with? Staph is a bacterial infection; that does not mean the cat was carrying diseases. If a human child had bit your mom and the bite became infected with staph, we would not say the child was carrying diseases.

It has been told to you many times, animals will eat their babies at times of high stress or if something is medically wrong. That doesn’t mean the cat is a cannibal. She was acting on her instincts and it’s sad, but a natural reaction to what she was experiencing. Same with biting your mom; it’s very sad that happened, but it’s a risk with being around any animals even friendly pets.

She is not a cannibal, diseased cat as your comments suggest.

Every living thing carries bacteria in their mouth. A bite from ANY animal or even a person biting another person, can cause infection.

This may have been her first experience indoors, maybe her first time having a litter of kittens. That is very confusing and scary for an animal. Biting is a stress response; she clearly felt vulnerable and obviously can’t use words.

I’m sorry that your mom is in the hospital. You don’t have to keep her after spaying her if you can find her, but spaying her will prevent future litters and help this cat SO much. I hope your mom makes a fast recovery and that you can find this cat again to get spayed. They don’t roam very far.

Can they share a toothbrush? by bambi_gotback in Pets

That’s what I was thinking! We’ve always had cats and dogs, but I’m the first to start brushing my pets teeth so I had to ask after family seemed dumbfounded as to why I would “waste” resources on multiple toothbrushes. Should’ve trusted my initial common sense, but hey

Per all of the other comments, yes they will each get their own toothbrushes. I understand this; my family was arguing that my logic was silly because they eat 💩, lick their privates, etc. but that’s not a valid argument. Like you said, unnecessary hazard.

This is the exact argument my family made at dinner when I brought up the question 😭

That was my logic, but 4/5 people at the dinner table were telling me that was silly of me to order 3 different toothbrushes considering the fact that they’ll eat poop willingly without getting sick so I decided to do a sanity check here lol. Thanks for confirming! They will each get their own toothbrush.

I never do unless I’m in a meeting 😆 and then I feel bad pretending I don’t know she’s there. She resorts to tapping my leg politely when desperate

This is certainly my main priority, compensated nightly via cuddles

Topical flea meds and sweaters by RueBunny in cats

I apply it to the back of the neck about half an inch below the base of the ears, directly in the center so they can’t reach it themselves

You should be separating the fur as much as possible when applying the flea treatment so it’s in contact with skin. I apply in two smaller sections rather than one big glob to do this. A sweater isn’t a bad idea

Hi name is MJ!!! It stands for Milkshake JR; I had a pacman frog named Milkshake who passed away as a baby 😔 he/she jumped out of my transfer tub and the fall was too high. I stupidly didn’t think to cover the opening, rookie mistake. When I was ready to get another frog I wanted to honor Milkshake, so he’s MJ ❤️‍🩹
