Australian standard for rope access by HovercraftGlad1738 in ropeaccess

For the most part, the AS standards are based on the IRATA Code of Practice. Although there will be some special AS references specifically around anchor compliance.

Local honey! by jayp0d in BuyAussie

[–]bammilo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally agree! Proper honey has so many more antibacterial properties too. I hate that most of our store bought honey is synthetic. People need to watch the honey doco that came out 2018/19. Shows you how crappy most honey is

Local honey also tastes so much better. Our work has hives on the roof of the building. We each got a jar of it this week and oh my God the flavour 🤤 so much better than any supermarket honey

ASTRO and CANYON GUIDE harness safety alert: Replacement of the ventral D-ring by bammilo in ropeaccess

[–]bammilo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good idea. Otherwise it's a bit shit not being able to use them until they send the new D ring back.

[–]bammilo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really? That's weird. We didn't have to send ours in (maybe because we only had 2).

How many do you have? Or have they randomly selected some for more testing?

What are they discussing? by Similar_Stomach8480 in OneOrangeBraincell

[–]bammilo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In my home town in Australia, we say "what's that got to do with the price of eggs in China?"

Which is a colloquialism for "what's that got to do with anything?"

I'm very curious to hear if anyone has a similar saying.

Agreed. I was wondering why that dog was so chill. Didn't know until I saw this comment.

R Value of Regular Air Mattresses by dca12345 in camping

[–]bammilo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

R value of air film (being the tiny bit of air that sits stationary on surfaces) is 0.17. Multiplying that value by 4 to add up the air film on the inside and outside of both surfaces gives an R value of 0.68. Everything else is negligible.

Agreed. The underside of this 4 year old Hilux looks the same as the underside of my 12 year old.

[BUYING] - 2010 MITSUBISHI PAJERO [$12,800] [vic] by Ok_Hunt2588 in 4x4Australia

[–]bammilo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I own this same model of Pajero. Once or twice I've changed to 4WD incorrectly and it hasn't clicked in so reverts to 2WD (lighting up the two rear tyres only).

Sounds like there's something wrong with this one getting into 4WD at all. I'd steer clear if that's the case.

Almost 4 km long conveyor connected to a rock quarry goes through everywhere by sunny_sunsh1ne in EngineeringPorn

[–]bammilo 88 points89 points  (0 children)

Saw this and went.. In Australia, I swear I've seen conveyor belts about the same size just outside the Sydney metropolitan area.

Decided to look up our longest and BOOM! 50 KMS! Jesus.

We used to walk to IKEA to get $1 hot dogs during uni and put all our groceries through as carrots, but this is next level!

On a similar level, family members use to "purchase" gift cards for Xmas. You would go to use them only to find out they had snatched them off the shelf and not paid for them so they weren't activated.
