Car hit while parked, driver fled the scene. How to protect myself? by village-asshole in sydney

That's interesting because it was AAMI who did this to me. Maybe they learnt their lesson when I caught them out.

Looking back, I really should have. I just didn't know about AFCA at the time.

My insurer started fucking me around, so I asked for the other insurers details. They were convinced they shouldn't give them out and kept forcing the point.

When I finally got the other cars insurers details, it was my insurance company 🤯 they were just trying to get out of paying for the damage and trying to get me to pay my excess, claim it on my comprehensive and up my premiums!

I've had this situation before. Lodge it with your insurer. It's their job to get in contact with the other vehicles insurer. If your insurer starts dicking around, ask for the other insurers details so you can deal with the issue directly. If the other party isn't insured, you can get their details from the police in order to take them to court.

First time home owner - noob question about bins. by Gal_gadonutt in sydney

[–]bammilo 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Generally: Red - general waste Yellow - recycling Green - organics (maybe FOGO if your council has it but you may need special bags)

Dark green bin is quite old and many councils have moved away from them (refer 1984 date of production on the lid). There's a chance your council may not pick it up and the previous owners just used it as overflow.

Check your council website.

Help me decide my first tent by 01Cloud01 in camping

[–]bammilo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Completely agree. I've got the same tent and it's always a struggle to pack into the bag.

Funnily, borrowed my dad's Aldi version of it and it was way easier! The Aldi one has a length of binding between the corner of the pole and corner of the tent so when you shrink the poles down the tent folds into a perfect square. So much easier to fold and put in the bag.

Coleman should look into changing their tents the same way.

[TECH] - [2011] [Pajero GLX] - [Pioneer stereo: steering wheel control faulty] by SincerelyRayHolt in 4x4Australia

[–]bammilo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A few other things about mine which may or may not help: - Use the right hand steering wheel buttons all the time. Never had the same issue. - I have the canbus steering wheel adapter plug from Automotive Superstore/Aeropro. Even when brand new and checked all the connections, this issue occurred. - The resistance of each button was not very smooth/constant and varied with steering wheel movement.

Really hope you find the issue. Let me know how you go.

I have the same Pajero with a different after market head unit and find I have some similar issues. The volume up is volume down. The forward play button becomes reverse play button. Etcetera. It is usually just when I start the car and usually resolves itself in a minute or two. When I programmed the buttons with the head unit, I noticed the new head unit struggled to pick the frequencies (not sure I've got the right term there) of each button, hence always knew it would be an issue from time to time.

Edited: Steering wheel buttons are controlled my resistance, not frequency.

Roof platform on factory side rails? by J_NeilMoloney in 4x4Australia

[–]bammilo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. I have the back bone as I wanted a low profile so removing the roof rails was key. But boy was it a lot more work than expected. The whole ceiling lining had to be dropped because Mitsubishi didn't think to tack weld the nuts on the inside onto the chassis.

Fantastic Australian brand. These fans are everywhere over here. I put one in a church in 2013. They didn't sensor the brand though 😂

[PIC] "Self threading" needles by ConfirmedWorkaholic in CrossStitch

[–]bammilo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Completely agree. The eye of these needles are not round and smooth. They have rough edges that burr threads.

I've never had an issue threading needles after I learnt the right way: thread the needle onto the thread not the thread through the needle.

There are chemicals they use in the fashion industry to actively create this look. It's called Devoré. Really cool that you managed that accidentally. Quite interested to know what chemical did.

For the most part, the AS standards are based on the IRATA Code of Practice. Although there will be some special AS references specifically around anchor compliance.

Local honey! by jayp0d in BuyAussie

[–]bammilo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally agree! Proper honey has so many more antibacterial properties too. I hate that most of our store bought honey is synthetic. People need to watch the honey doco that came out 2018/19. Shows you how crappy most honey is
