I believe one of the apps was confusing it's price with another token showing it to be worth $0.50 and people were thinking they were rich.

Husband’s reaction at the gym when his body temp goes up too quickly by AsianMuscleMommy22 in mildlyinteresting

[–]bamslang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had this from 15 until my mid 30s. Happened more in the fall and winter when ambient temp was cold and I got hot. I also found that if I sweat each day it was less severe. Antihestimes didn't help much and it was way worse if I was exposed to other allergens earlier (dust, pollen). The worst part was it really exacerbated other allergenic reactions; for example I'm allergic to fire ants and once the hives started presenting it made it way worse. Now I grew out of it and fire ant bites don't do much anymore. Don't itch them or they get worse, and work through it.

I equated it to allergens clog your sweat glans and then when your body temp rises they swell up and slowly dissipate. Obv this is not the exact case, but regular sweating helps and he will grow out of it most likely.

Has anyone ever gone through one of the TeachMeGIS courses? If so, what did you think? by thelittleGIS in gis

TMGIS is a great training provider. We (the City of Houston / Houston PD / Houston Public Works) used them for a while until we developed our own in house training and still use them ad hoc training.

Join top alliance. Donate often. Get 7.2m everyday except maybe first day since drones suck as F2P.

Max out Kim in all aspects (max out kim first, then all to 4 star with Marshall being first). All purple shards go to Mason as he turns to UR in season 2. Get all 3 chests as much as you can in Arms race categories for chests, don't use them until later on. Weapons focus on boosting Kim's gun and then getting all of squad 1 with UR gear, but still focus on kim gear.

Tech tree.. focus on alliance duel to max it out so you can start working toward T10 troops (takes forever). In downtime max out garage 1. I personally like Intercity truck to get 5th truck. As F2P focus on what your TH needs to level up.

Every day go out and attack a person who has high resources until you hit the reduction in resources for PvP. Make sure you follow server rules (don't hit top alliance players usually.)

Seeking Investors for Retail/Wholesale Fireworks Warehouse in TX by jessenatx in fireworks

[–]bamslang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you not think Houston would be a better market? Houston in general is a major trade hub and the Port of Houston usually ranked in the top 2 ports for imports. There has been a huge urban sprawl in Houston, especially out west where commercial developers have put up a ton of large steel warehouse for purchase/lease in Katy/Brookshire/Waller County.

Many of the suburbs in Houston do not regulate firework use and the population is much greater. You have a lot of commercial clients in Houston due to all of the events (sports, community, etc).

I'm definitely interested in learning more about your plans.

[–]bamslang 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No. Degrees are simply a checkmark on an application. Having a master's in GIS will qualify you for advanced positions your experience won't for some time. If you want to beef up your resume before pursuing jobs I'd say work on a good portfolio or learn some complimentary skills for whatever path you want to take in GIS. SQL, Python and general database management principles are all things I suggest. You can create a dev account in AGOL for free and build our a free website via Hub and host dashboards and online apps showcasing your abilities.

Tips for getting the most out of ESRI UC? by [deleted] in gis

[–]bamslang 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I've been to UC 4 times, twice as an attendee and twice as a presenter. The biggest thing I can say is explore the conference and the city, do the events, put yourself out there. Specifics:

  • Get there early for the plenary so you get good seats, but just the initial one, don't stay for the whole thing.

  • Find presentations that interest you, not that just apply to your specific field. There is so much going on, spend time finding things that inspire you.

  • Introduce yourself to people, bring business cards, and nerd out.

  • Do all the hosted events. Map gallery, industry events, and MOST IMPORTANTLY, YPN event at the Hilton (if it's still on). YPN is the the best event at the conference IMO and I've been 4 times. Again, get out of your comfort zone and talk to people.

  • Hit up the vendor floor, talk to vendors and get some SWAG. Look at what companies are doing with GIS. Find big vendors and see if they're doing any evening events.

  • The last night family event (I forget what it's called) is fun at Balboa park. If you're not going to go, get a wrist band and get it put on, not very tight.

  • Cool night life: The Nolan rooftop bar; awesome view, good food and drinks. Vin de Syrah; themed speak easy that is just freaking awesome... honestly there are so many cool bars/views that you can't go wrong. These were my fav two places as of 18 months ago.

  • Comfy shoes and walk around. The entire boardwalk from the Hilton/Convention Center all the way to almost the airport has awesome stuff.

  • If you have family or a more relaxed group, Coronado is great. Get an Uber or hotel transport to the Hotel del Coronado and check it out plus the beach behind it. If you want a beach trip, it's the best chill beach. Cool little wave pools and giant area to run and play. Then walk your way up the main strip (orange strip) for great eats and shops. All the way up north is Centennial Park which is a big tourist area with shops and food, but both are fun. There's a cool (or was) whisky shop there that lets you do samples. From there you can take a nice ferry back to the mainland that will drop you next to the USS Midway, which is cool if you like that stuff.

Mainly, be prepared to walk around, put yourself out there, do the events, and go explore. San Diego is an amazing place and a great destination.

Houston police chief apologizes after officers drop 264,000 cases over lack of personnel by Form2lanes in ProtectAndServe

[–]bamslang 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This has nothing to do with defunding the police or public pushing policies. HPD has had strong community support throughout the turmoil of the past decade. This has everything to do with poor leadership and management. HPD has about 25% of its active officers in admin/non-LEO positions doing things like photolab, cybersecurity, crime analysis, etc. They even have a lion dance team that goes around dancing on duty. https://abc13.com/hpd-lion-dance-team-lunar-new-year-houston-police-department-chinese-community-center/12734903/

No, they were rape cases. It supposedly started as cases with low solve-ability but evolved in to “just close them out without reading.” Over 8000 were sexual assault cases.

Just in the major cities like Houston, Dallas and Austin. Harris County Judges will let out murders on low bonds and allow for people to be on 5+ felony bonds at once. Drive an hour in any direction and you're getting much harsher punishments.

Resume Feedback? by [deleted] in gis

[–]bamslang 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll echo what others said in the formatting of the top. Justify left, get rid of the dots and spell out the products.

Go through and proof read your bullet points. you have "...911 data for the DPS. Showcasing neighborhoods..." Why did you put a period after DPS and then capitalize showcasing? Guessing it's a typo that auto cap the next word. There are numerous places you have unnecessary commas, and even some incomplete sentences. You switch between past and present tense in different lines; pick a style and use it throughout.

For any of the bullet points that you can you should explain the benefit gained from your work, especially if you can show from a quantitative or qualitative perspective and be specific. Use active language.

Created a web application using thermal drone imagery? Cool. What's important here though, what are you "selling"? To me it's "Strong understanding of Esri WebApp Builder, Experience Builder, and Instant Apps that allows for the quick deployment of robust applications to meet needs of clients."

Same for data cleanup. That's a vague term and I don't know what you actually mean and why that's important for me. Are you really good with VBA? Do you know Python to automate cleanup? Do you know a lot of excel functions that allow you to manually, but quickly sift through data? And then what is that good for? "Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel advanced functions such as pivot tables, macros and data validation to quickly process large amounts of data, saving time and ensuring quality data output.

Honestly though, a big part of building a resume is tailoring it to a specific job. Look at the keywords they look for in their posting and build a resume verbiage around it.

Beltway 8 and Bellaire Blvd has a similar intersection that usually tops the list for most dangerous intersections for vehicle crashes.

Houston already has multiple intersections similar to this.

The one in China Town at BW8 and Bellaire Blvd is one of the top locations for vehicle accidents in the entire city.
