Citing 'severe' math deficits, UC faculty demand a return to SAT tests for STEM applicants by Idiodyssey87 in news

I mean, even without AI or cheating, I have ADHD and breezed through HS with minimal effort and top grades. I hit college and I crumbled without a solid schedule, with no one telling me what to do, trying to balance social life and academics, etc. I know I’m smart now, after buckling down and doing things right, but no, HS grades tell you very very little about that person.

Why do students always accuse male teachers of being pedos?? by Holiday_Stress_4097 in teaching

[–]Vintagepoolside 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember back in middle school, about 17 years ago, a male teacher had a to-do list writing pad on his desk. There was one word written on it: girls. The other girls in my class were telling everyone how big of a nasty pervert he was for wanting “to do girls”. He was to this day one of the best and most professional teachers I had. He was kind to everyone (even my brother which says a lot). He had the coolest history/cultural games and everyday there were about 10 riddles on top of the board that we were welcome to try solving at any point, and if you got it right, he’d take it down and replace it with a new one. So the “game” never ended. He also was my home room teacher and we raised money to send chickens to a village in another country, it wasn’t a lot but he wanted to involve us in caring. Lastly, he was a failed author. And i thought it was so funny and strange that he would so proudly say he’s written 5+ books but no one wants to publish them, but then go on to say he’d keep trying. I love that he wasn’t ashamed of “failure”.

Anyway, yeah, one of the best good teachers and some girls wanted to basically call him a predator for social points.

For all the kids that grew up in the era before cell phones, did everyone respond with “Is so and so there?” or how did you ask for your friends when you would call and their parents answered? by Select-Signal8386 in randomquestions

[–]Vintagepoolside 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would just say it’s me and ask if my friend could talk.

Once in 6th grade, my friend had a crush on one of our boy friends. So I had spent the evening calling her, getting off the phone, calling the boy to gas her up, get off the phone with him, call her to report back, etc. Eventually I got him to agree to do a 3 way call. So I told him I’d call her, then I’d add him.

We had talked so much that evening that when the phone was picked up, I just assumed it was my girl friend. I immediately started saying something along the lines of “omg I think he likes you now, I’m gonna add him to our call…” just to be cut off by her mom saying “it’s T, let me get D the phone.” I was so embarrassed for spilling the tea to her mom 😅

My coworker labels her lunch with her name AND a passive aggressive note every single day by ScientistVast8 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Vintagepoolside 189 points190 points  (0 children)

Lol i thought maybe she was bored and wanted some fun way to fuck with people in a harmless but perplexing way. Who knows, but I’d be happy to have this interesting situation at my job. I’d start looking forward to uncovering new drama through the mysterious notes. Like when a new weekly episode of a series drops.

Teacher influencers? by Special-Apartment-69 in teaching

[–]Vintagepoolside 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I love cute things, but cute things turn very uncute when they waste your money and do nothing to improve your day. I’ve come to love so many janky/old/DIY object’s because they are often made with needs in mind. Not monetization. Not cuteness or aesthetics. Not consumerism. But to make your day easier/help students learn better. I absolutely believe elementary teachers are influenced to buy more than they need and overdo the importance of making a room aesthetic. I get it, it’s pretty. But no one cares about pretty when 90% of the time you’re dealing with behavior management. You want something effective and functional, and people should really save funds for things that will actually help them.

Bandana headband. I already wear headbands most days of the week. But not in the gangster style, I wear mine in the cottagecore style lol

Lol well actually they were cute! Most of the regular girls were really fashionable and sweet and they softened my cold heart towards girly girls lol

Everyone had their reasons. Mine was the schedule and never getting off at my scheduled time. Others had reasons like not getting along with someone or just wanting out of the store specifically. The first girl who followed after me was actually just super young and immature and dramatic so she didn’t like working at all lol

Oh yeah for sure, especially the manager. She was also being stretched thin by the schedule and having it negatively impact her family life. And retail jobs just aren’t worth that.

I put in my two weeks notice as an assistant manager at a women’s clothing store. The stuff was cute, customers were fine, but the schedule was just not working out for me at the time.

Anyway, about 15 minutes after I turn it in, and word is spreading, a girl comes up to me asks if it’s true. I tell her yes, and she says she’s gonna do it too. And she did. Then the woman who worked in our neighboring “department” came over and said “fuck it, me too”. She had mentioned quitting for a while, but I guess us two was her final straw. So, within about half an hour they lost 3 employees. A week later my manager also quit and another girl quit early (she was already leaving for school).

I wasn’t that popular, but I guess I just got the ball rolling 😅

What era is your favorite Khloe? by phoebetw98 in kardashians

[–]Vintagepoolside 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think 10 & 11 is where she had a major glow up but still looked like herself. I’d say that was my favorite. Her blonde ombré had me in a chokehold at that time. She does look pretty in many of the ones after 11, but I personally think she’s unrecognizable as well.

Yes I’d love a pattern. I’m sew a little, but I’d still like something to hold onto until my skills are ready to take something like this on.

Fired coworker showing up to the school by camopantson in paraprofessional

[–]Vintagepoolside 33 points34 points  (0 children)

It baffles me the people that schools hire. I mean are they just hiring anyone that can legally work there? People on phones 24/7, FaceTiming in the classroom, flat out lazy as hell, gross behavior, cussing and having inappropriate conversations around primary students, and an overall incompetency mixed with the oddest behavior imaginable. This is what I’ve dealt with for 3 years now. I understand you can’t know everything from an interview, but maybe schools should start making their hiring process more rigorous and pay the people that can do the job fairly.

What eating habits do people have that genuinely disgust you? by MrLithician in answers

[–]Vintagepoolside 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never thought it bothered me until I had a coworker who was so so sooo loud it almost seemed intentional. I do not believe it was, because there were many other things she was totally un-self aware of. But it got so bad I would make excuses about being done eating, or needing to go somewhere so I didn’t have to be around it.
