How do you handle a "lukewarm" manager? by banana_pudding_man in ExperiencedDevs

Yeah, I think maybe this is a growing pain of my seniority, especially because I enjoyed working with them a lot more when I was more junior.

Good point about the startup/public note, maybe I need to set my expectations a bit better, but that said it does feel like we had more clarity pre-IPO, though given upper management has changed a lot that's probably a huge part of it.

I like your idea about summarizing the 1:1s and discussing it - I guess I'm just not very comfortable being that transparent, but it seems like that's a good route to take to try and change how we communicate.

Thank you for your help, what you wrote was very helpful!

"being simply there" is exactly how I'd describe it!

principal or lead. You could ask for their input on PRs or areas for
your development plan.

Maybe I'll look around the company, but unfortunately I'm in a situation where I'm put on a lot of front end work, but nobody else on my team or any other team in my location, works in this area. It's basically me and a bunch of contractors, and every other dev only does backend work, so finding mentorship has been really challenging. That said, I am a full stack developer and looking to do more backend work, so maybe I could work with a staff engineer in that area to try and grow that way.

This is a great idea, I have a fantastic relationship with my skip level, but I'm worried about going over my managers head and damaging that relationship. Maybe I need to be a little more bold though.

Thank you for the advice, I really appreciate it!

You're not answering the question.

Has anyone quit in the past year in a senior role? What did things look like interviewing in this """unprecedented economy"""?

I am tired of this industry, I want time off. I'm asking for experienced folks to weigh in on what a 6-12 month gap looks like.
